David checked Mark’s wrist for a steady pulse while Sarah stood over him, breathing heavily. She looked at the man she had lived with for five long years. He had tried to end her life just to claim her family estate and money. The house felt cold, even though the bright lights burned warm above them.
David: He is just unconscious. He will wake up in a few minutes.
Sarah: Good. Call the police right now, David. We need them here immediately.
David: I already called Detective Miller on my way over here.
Sarah: Did you tell him about the life insurance document?
David: Yes. I told him everything about the trust fund and the forge signatures.
Sarah walked back toward the dining room to secure the grey soup bowl as evidence. She wrapped the bottle carefully in a plastic sandwich bag from the kitchen drawer. Mark had planned everything down to the smallest detail. He wanted her dead before the divorce papers were finalized next week.
Sarah: He forged my signature on a two-million-dollar life insurance policy.
David: He was deeply in debt with some shady business investors in town.
Sarah: I trusted him with my life, David. I gave him everything.
David: Guys like him only care about money and power, Sarah.
Sarah: He almost got away with it. If I had swallowed one bite...
David: Don't think about that now. You were smart to trust your instincts.
They walked back to the hallway where Mark was beginning to stir on the oak floor. His fingers twitched, and he let out a low groan. David stood over him with his arms crossed over his leather jacket. Sarah looked down at her husband with complete coldness in her heart.
Mark: Sarah... please... don't do this to me...
Sarah: You did this to yourself, Mark. You chose greed over love.
Mark: I can explain everything if you just give me five minutes!
David: You can explain it to the police officers pulling up outside right now.
Red and blue lights flashed through the front window panes of the house. The sound of distant sirens echoed down the quiet suburban street. Justice was finally coming for Mark, and there was no escape left for him.
