The Arrest In The Hallway

She Tried To Poison Her Husband During Their Family Dinner

Two police officers pushed open the front door and entered the white hallway with guns unholstered. Detective Miller stepped inside behind them, holding a folder in his hand. He took one look at Mark lying on the floor and then looked at David and Sarah.

Detective Miller: Is everyone okay in here? We got the emergency call.

Sarah: We are fine, Detective. My husband tried to poison my soup.

Mark: That is a lie! She is framing me because of our divorce!

David: Shut up, Mark. We have the bottle and the soup right here.

Detective Miller: Bag that bottle, Officer Roberts. Send it straight to the lab.

Officer Roberts placed the glass bottle into a clear evidence bag and sealed it tightly. The second officer pulled Mark up off the hardwood floor and slapped steel handcuffs around his wrists. Mark winced as the cold metal tightened around his hands behind his back.

Mark: You are making a huge mistake! Call my lawyer right now!

Detective Miller: You have the right to remain silent, Mr. Vance.

Sarah: I am handing over all the forged financial papers to your team today.

Detective Miller: That will help us build a solid case against him for attempted murder.

Mark: Sarah, you can't ruin my life like this! Think of my business!

Sarah: You ruined your own life the moment you put poison in my food.

The officers turned Mark around and led him out through the front door toward the waiting police cruiser. Neighbors stood along the sidewalk, watching in shock as Mark was forced into the backseat. The bright flashing lights painted the quiet neighborhood in red and blue hues.

David: It is finally over, Sarah. He can't hurt you anymore.

Sarah: It won't be truly over until he is behind bars for a long time.

David: With this evidence, he will be spending decades in state prison.

Sarah: Let's pack up my important papers and leave this house tonight.

Sarah took a deep breath of fresh air as the front door remained wide open. The home that felt like a prison just an hour ago was now free of its dark shadow. She was ready to take back control of her life.
