Chloe: I need the earliest flight back to Ohio right now, please!
Airline Clerk: The next available flight leaves at six thirty tomorrow morning, ma'am.
Chloe stood at the airport ticket desk in Dallas, her eyes red and puffy from crying all night long. She had not slept a single minute after reading the business news article about Ethan's massive wealth.
Chloe: Charge it to my credit card immediately. I cannot miss that morning flight under any circumstances.
She paid three times the normal ticket price just to secure a seat in the first-class section of the plane. All she could think about was reaching Ethan before he signed the final divorce papers in court.
Four hours later, Chloe stepped out of a yellow taxi right in front of their old suburban house. The old house looked entirely different than it had just twenty-four hours before.
A brand new black luxury SUV was parked right in the middle of the clean concrete driveway. Landscapers were busy trimming the bushes and planting fresh red flowers along the front walkway.
Chloe: Ethan! Ethan, open the door right now! We need to talk about us!
She ran up the wooden porch steps and pounded her fists against the front door with all her strength.
The front door opened slowly, revealing Ethan standing in the entryway wearing a expensive tailored blue suit. He looked completely relaxed, calm, and healthier than she had ever seen him before.
Ethan: Why are you making so much noise on my front porch, Chloe?
Chloe: Ethan, baby, I came back for you! I made a terrible mistake leaving yesterday!
Ethan: You made your choice very clear when you packed your bags and walked out that door.
Chloe: I was just stressed out by all the bills! I didn't mean any of those cruel things I said!
Ethan: Every bill on that table was paid off in full yesterday afternoon while you were on your plane.
Chloe tried to step past him into the living room, but Ethan extended his arm to block the entryway firmly.
Chloe: Please let me inside so we can talk like a real married couple, Ethan.
Ethan: You are not welcome inside my house anymore, Chloe. Our marriage was over the moment you left.
Chloe: I am still your legal wife! I have a right to sit on that couch and speak to you!
Ethan: The court granted my temporary emergency restraining order this morning based on abandonment.
A police cruiser pulled up along the curb right behind her taxi, its blue lights flashing softly in the bright sun.
Chloe: You called the police on your own wife?
Ethan: I called the police on a trespasser who refuses to leave my private property after being served papers.
Two officers stepped out of the patrol car and walked up the front lawn toward the porch steps.
Officer: Ma'am, you need to step away from the front door immediately and show us your identification.
Chloe: This is my house too! I lived here with him for over two years!
Officer: The property deed is under Mr. Miller's name alone, ma'am. You must leave the premises right now.
Chloe looked at Ethan with tears streaming down her face, begging him with her eyes to change his mind.
Chloe: Ethan, please! We loved each other for four years! You can't just throw me away like this!
Ethan: You threw us away over paper bills, Chloe. Now I am just cleaning up the mess you left behind.
