FABLE

Justice In The End

She Walked Away From Their Mountain Of Unpaid Debt

Judge: The court has reviewed all financial records and abandonment evidence submitted by the plaintiff.

Chloe sat at the defense table in the local courthouse alongside her court-appointed family lawyer. She wore a simple black dress, looking exhausted and completely defeated as the trial began.

Across the room, Ethan sat calmly beside Mr. Pendelton, looking confident in his dark suit.

Chloe's Lawyer: Your Honor, my client was suffering from severe emotional distress due to extreme financial hardship.

Judge: Hardship does not give a spouse the right to abandon their partner and demand half their inheritance later.

Chloe: I helped him pay rent for two years before the debt built up, Your Honor!

Judge: Silence in the courtroom, Mrs. Miller! Speak only through your attorney when requested.

Mr. Pendelton stood up slowly from his seat and presented a thick leather folder to the court clerk.

Lawyer: Your Honor, we have bank statements showing Mr. Miller paid off twenty thousand dollars of Mrs. Miller's personal debts.

Judge: Is this information accurate according to your bank records, Mrs. Miller?

Chloe looked down at her hands on the table, unable to deny the clear financial evidence presented against her.

Chloe: Yes, Your Honor... he covered my medical charges on his personal cards last year.

Judge: So Mr. Miller ruined his own credit score to protect your health, and you abandoned him when bills came due?

Chloe stayed completely silent, tears welling up in her eyes as the judge shook his head in disgust.

Judge: This court finds the pre-nuptial claim completely invalid due to clear spousal abandonment under state law.

Chloe: Please, Your Honor! Give me at least a small portion of the settlement to restart my life!

Judge: Mrs. Miller, you are awarded zero dollars from Mr. Miller's inheritance trust or real estate holdings.

The judge slammed his heavy wooden gavel down onto the block with a sharp, loud crack that filled the room.

Judge: The marriage is hereby dissolved effective immediately. Court is dismissed.

Ethan stood up and buttoned his jacket, shaking Mr. Pendelton’s hand with a satisfied smile on his face.

Chloe burst into heavy sobbing at her table, burying her face in her hands just as Ethan had done days ago on the sofa.

Ethan walked past her table toward the exit doors of the courtroom without giving her a single glance.

Chloe: Ethan... please look at me just once...

Ethan stopped near the heavy brass doors of the courtroom and turned his head slightly toward her direction.

Ethan: Our love couldn't pay those bills, Chloe. But my independence paid for everything else.

He pushed the courtroom doors open and walked out into the warm sunshine, ready to start his new life completely free.
