The crystal chandeliers of the Grand Empire Ballroom cast a blinding glare across the polished marble floor. More than two hundred elite guests gathered for the annual Vance Estate charity gala, sipping vintage champagne and discussing multi-million dollar business deals. At the center of the hall stood seven-year-old Toby, wearing a tailored beige suit that cost more than a average worker's monthly salary. He looked small, fragile, and utterly terrified.
Richard: Stand up straight, Toby. The entire board of directors is watching us right now.
Toby: My shoes hurt, Dad. I want to go home.
Richard: You are a Vance. You stand tall and smile for the cameras.
Richard Vance, a cold-hearted tech mogul worth three billion dollars, adjusted his bow tie without looking down at his son. Beside him, three high-society socialites in glittering gowns crouched down to face the crying boy.
Evelyn: Come here, darling! Look at these lovely golden ribbons on your coat!
Victoria: Oh, isn't he just precious? Such a handsome little heir to the Vance fortune!
Toby: Leave me alone! I don't want your ribbons!
Tears welled up in Toby's bright blue eyes and spilled over his pale, freckled cheeks. He backed away from the perfumed women, his chest heaving with heavy, breathless sobs. The crowd began to whisper, sensing the growing awkwardness in the air.
Richard: Toby, stop this foolishness immediately. You are embarrassing this entire family in front of our guests.
Toby: You're not my family!
Richard: What did you just say to me?
Before Richard could grab his arm, Toby turned around and sprinted across the grand hall as fast as his little legs could carry him, fleeing from the bright lights and towering billionaires toward the back doors of the estate.
