The Dallas afternoon heat hung heavy over the backyard swimming pool, but the water inside was icy cold. Floating red rose petals stirred gently on the surface, right where two-year-old Lily was drowning.
Beatrice: Oops. Looks like the little mistake took a tumble.
Elena: Oh my God! Lily!
Elena didn't hesitate for a single second. She threw her phone onto the outdoor marble table and jumped straight into the deep end of the swimming pool, clothes and all.
Elena: Hold on, baby! I'm coming!
Beatrice: You're going to ruin your uniform, Elena. Don't be dramatic.
Water splashed everywhere as Elena dragged the gasping, crying baby girl back toward the edge of the pool.
Clara: What happened?! What was that splash?!
Clara sprinted out through the patio doors, her face turning pale as she saw her shivering baby wrapped in Elena's wet arms.
Clara: MY BABY!
Elena: She's breathing, Clara! I got her! She's safe!
Clara: How did she get in the water, Beatrice?! She was sleeping in her playpen inside!
Beatrice: Children wander off, dear. You should keep a closer eye on your daughter instead of screaming at me.
Clara: You threw her in! I saw you from the upstairs window!
Beatrice: Nobody will ever believe a broke, grieving mother over me.
Clara stepped forward, her eyes blazing with absolute fury, and raised her hand high into the hot Texas air.
Clara: YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS!
The slap echoed across the manicured lawn of the luxury Dallas mansion, leaving Beatrice stumbling backward in sheer shock.
Beatrice: You crazy bitch! You just hit me!
Clara: Call 911 right now, Elena! Tell them my stepmother just tried to murder my toddler!
Beatrice: Go ahead and call them. By tonight, you'll be the one in handcuffs, Clara. Mark my words.
