Later that evening, Clara sat on the edge of a modest bed in a small hotel near downtown Dallas. Baby Lily was finally asleep in her portable crib, hugging her teddy bear tightly.
Clara's phone rang. It was her family law attorney, Arthur Vance.
Arthur: Clara, I just received a legal notice from Beatrice's corporate defense team.
Clara: What does it say, Arthur? Are they trying to take Lily away from me?
Arthur: They've filed an emergency ex parte motion for sole temporary custody and emergency eviction from the Highland Park estate. They're citing mental instability and assault based on the police report.
Clara: Arthur, she pushed my daughter into the pool! She did it on purpose so she could claim I'm unfit and steal the fifty million dollar trust fund!
Arthur: I believe you, Clara. But without physical evidence or witness testimony, the judge will look at the police report. Beatrice has three senior partners from the top defense firm in Texas representing her.
Clara: So I'm just supposed to lose my baby and my late husband's legacy?!
Arthur: We have the court hearing in three days. I'll do everything I can, but we need a miracle.
Clara hung up the phone and buried her face in her hands, tears spilling over her eyelids. Suddenly, her phone chimed with a private text message from an unknown number.
Text: "Meet me behind the estate garage at midnight. Don't tell anyone. - Elena"
Clara checked on Lily, left her with a trusted nanny who rushed over, and drove back to the Highland Park mansion under the cover of the dark night.
She crept behind the stone three-car garage where the shadows hidden from the security gate were darkest. Elena stood waiting, wrapped in a dark jacket, holding a small silver USB drive in her trembling hands.
Clara: Elena! Why did you lie to the police earlier?! You broke my heart!
Elena: Clara, I am so sorry! Beatrice threatened to revoke my mother's medical coverage and have my visa canceled! She would have destroyed my family!
Clara: Then why are you meeting me now?
Elena: Because I couldn't live with myself if I let that evil woman take your daughter. Look at this.
Elena held up the tiny USB drive.
Clara: What is that?
Elena: Three months ago, your late husband Richard installed a hidden high-definition nest camera inside the birdhouse facing the pool. He didn't tell Beatrice because he suspected she was skimming money from the estate accounts.
Clara: Richard installed a camera in the birdhouse?!
Elena: Yes! The feed saved directly to a cloud drive synced with my master tablet. Beatrice thought she turned off all the main patio cameras before she walked outside with Lily!
Clara: Did it capture what happened today?!
Elena: Every single second in full clarity. It shows Beatrice taking Lily out of her playpen, walking her to the deep end, and throwing her directly into the pool with a cold, terrifying smile on her face.
Clara: Oh my God... Elena, you saved my life!
Elena: Take this drive to your lawyer immediately, Clara. Don't let Beatrice see it until you're inside that courtroom.
Clara: What about Beatrice's threats against your visa and your family?
Elena: Once that tape plays in court, Beatrice will be going to prison for a very long time. She won't be able to hurt anyone ever again.
