Justice for Sarah's Memory

The Broken Flower Swing

Eleanor: It is already done, Richard. The police and my lawyer are on their way.

Evelyn: You crazy old witch! You can't do this to us!

Eleanor: Watch me! If you take one step closer to me or Maya, I will have you arrested for criminal trespassing right this second!

Maya: Grandmama, hold me tight...

Eleanor: I've got you, my precious girl. Grandmama will never let anyone hurt you again.

Evelyn turned to Richard, her hands shaking with rage as she pointed an angry finger at his face.

Evelyn: Fix this, Richard! Fix this right now or I am filing for divorce and taking half of everything you have!

Eleanor: Half of what, Evelyn? He has zero bank balance! His accounts are frozen as of five minutes ago when I flagged the unauthorized trust withdrawals!

Richard: Frozen? Mom, how am I going to pay my company payroll this Friday?

Eleanor: You can explain to your employees why you spent their wage money on designer dresses for a woman who destroys baby swings!

Evelyn: I'm leaving! I am not staying here to be arrested!

Eleanor: Go ahead and run, Evelyn. The security footage of you cutting that rope and dropping a baby onto marble is already being uploaded to the police server. They will find you wherever you go.

Evelyn gasped, dropping her designer handbag onto the floor as the sound of distant police sirens began to echo down the long private driveway of the estate.

Richard: Sirens? Mom, you actually called the police on your own son?

Eleanor: I called the police to protect Sarah’s child from two greedy, heartless monsters who thought they could ruin her memory and abuse her baby girl!

Richard: I am her father!

Eleanor: A father protects his child! You sat back and let this woman destroy the last gift Sarah ever made for her! You failed as a father, Richard!

The heavy glass doors of the greenhouse burst open, and two uniformed police officers walked in alongside Eleanor’s family lawyer, Marcus, who was holding a stack of legal documents.

Officer 1: Eleanor Vance?

Eleanor: Yes, Officer. That woman over there, Evelyn Vance, just deliberately destroyed estate property and caused injury to my two-year-old granddaughter. The video evidence is right here on this tablet.

Officer 1: Ma'am, step away from the child. Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for child endangerment and criminal mischief.

Evelyn: Get your hands off me! Richard, do something! Help me!

Richard: I... I can't... I don't have a lawyer...

Evelyn: You useless coward! I hate you!
