Clara walked over to the large floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the manicured lawn of the Dallas estate. In the distance, she could see police cruisers parked at the front gate, their red and blue lights flashing as officers placed Victoria in handcuffs.
Ethan: The police had a warrant ready for her arrest. Embezzlement, grand larceny, and fraud. She won't be coming back here for a very long time.
Clara: It’s sad... she had everything, but her greed completely destroyed her.
Ethan: Some people measure their worth by how much they can take from others. Father realized too late that true worth is about what you leave behind for the people you love.
Clara turned her gaze down to the letter in her hands. Slowly, she broke the seal and unfolded the paper, reading her father's final words to her.
Clara: "My dearest Clara... if you are reading this, it means I have finally left this world, but my love for you remains. I am so sorry for the years we lost. I hope this gift allows you to live the peaceful, beautiful life your mother always wanted for you."
Tears dripped onto the paper, but for the first time in her life, they were tears of relief and healing. She walked back to the table and picked up the silver urn, holding it gently against her heart.
Clara: We’re safe now, Mom. We finally have a home.
Ethan: What do you want to do first, sister?
Clara: First, I want to plant a garden in the backyard for Mom. Somewhere quiet, bright, and full of flowers.
Ethan: That sounds perfect. I’ll help you build it.
Clara looked around the grand room. The dark shadows of fear, cruelty, and deceit were gone, replaced by the warm Texas sunlight streaming through the windows. She was no longer an unwanted outsider in a house of strangers; she was finally home, standing strong alongside a brother who had chosen to protect her, ready to start a brand new chapter of her life.
