Arthur stared at the black ink on the thick paper, his fingers trembling slightly as he turned to the second page of the estate documents. Evelyn continued to pace around the perimeter of the grand foyer, her arms crossed tight against her chest.
Evelyn: Arthur, please look at me. You're letting a hired maid put ideas in your head during a critical merger week!
Arthur: This is my father's notary stamp, Evelyn. I would recognize his attorney's seal anywhere in Texas.
Maria: Mr. Vance, your father gave me those files two weeks before he was admitted to the hospital. He asked me to keep them locked in the nursery safe until you returned from the Chicago conference.
Evelyn: You stole them out of my private study! That safe belongs to the master bedroom suite!
Maria: I didn't steal anything, Mrs. Vance. Senior Mr. Vance gave me the key code himself because he knew you were changing the locks on his office.
Arthur took a step closer to Maria, looking down at the baby resting quietly in the carrier attached to her chest. He then looked back at Evelyn, whose sharp composure was rapidly crumbling into panic.
Arthur: Why does this legal file list an offshore holding company registered under your maiden name, Evelyn?
Evelyn: It was for tax planning! Your father was getting old and confused, Arthur! He wasn't thinking straight during his final months!
Arthur: My father ran a multi-billion dollar real estate firm until the day he took sick! He was sharper than both of us combined!
Maria: Page four shows the wire transfers, sir. Over two million dollars transferred out of the trust account reserved for little Leo's future medical care and education.
Evelyn: You lying little snake! How dare you talk about my stepson's trust fund like you have any right to it!
Evelyn lunged forward, reaching out as if to snatch the legal folder right out of Arthur's hands. Arthur stepped firmly in front of Maria, blocking Evelyn with his arm.
Arthur: Back off, Evelyn! Do not test me right now!
Evelyn: Arthur, you are making a massive mistake! If my father's legal team hears about these accusations, the entire family business partnership is over!
Arthur: Then let it be over! Because right now, I want to know why my wife's name is on a document attempting to strip my son of his biological rights!
