Two weeks after the disastrous dinner, tension reached an absolute breaking point inside Arthur's residence on Thursday afternoon. Clara and Evelyn were standing near the front entrance, surrounded by multiple large rolling designer suitcases and leather bags.
Arthur walked slowly out of his study, holding onto the wooden hallway railing to keep his balance steady. He looked at the packed luggage with confusion, wondering what kind of sudden trip they were planning to take.
Evelyn turned around, her face cold and stern as she gripped the handle of her polished black suitcase tightly.
Arthur: Evelyn, what is going on here? Where are you going with all these bags?
Evelyn: We are leaving today. Pack your bags.
Arthur: What do you mean? This is my home!
Clara: Not anymore. You signed the home transfer documents last week during your medical checkup.
Arthur gasped, remembering the stack of legal papers Evelyn had asked him to sign for his healthcare proxy. He realized with horror that she had slipped real estate title deeds into the middle of those official forms.
Just then, the front door opened, and David walked into the bright foyer wearing his tailored dark suit. Arthur looked at his eldest son with hope, believing David would put a stop to this terrible nightmare.
Arthur: David, thank goodness you are here! She tricked me into signing over the house ownership!
David: She didn't trick you, Dad. I reviewed the paperwork myself three days ago with her lawyer.
Arthur: What are you saying, son? You knew about this secret real estate deal?
David: You told me months ago that you wanted Evelyn to manage the family property for everyone.
Arthur: I never said that! She lied to you, David! You have to believe your father!
David: I am done listening to you, Dad. You change your mind every single week now.
The sound of suitcase handles clicking echoed sharply through the quiet foyer as Clara pushed open the front door. David grabbed his own briefcase, turning his back on his father to follow Clara and Evelyn outside.
Arthur reached his shaking hand out toward the open door in a desperate plea for help and truth. Tears filled his eyes as he watched his family abandon him in the middle of his own home.
Arthur: Please, don't leave me alone!
No one turned around. The heavy front door shut tight, leaving Arthur entirely alone under the bright ceiling light.
