Arthur sat isolated on the sofa with his head in his hands, weeping softly in the quiet house. The somber silence felt unbearable as he realized how completely he had been manipulated by the woman he trusted.
An hour passed before the front door unlocked again, and Thomas rushed inside, holding a thick Manila folder. He saw his father sitting alone on the sofa and ran across the hardwood floor to embrace him tightly.
Thomas: Dad! I got here as fast as I could. Are you alright?
Arthur: They took the house, Thomas... David went with them. They tricked me into signing everything away.
Thomas: I knew something was wrong! I hired a private investigator two weeks ago to look into Evelyn.
Thomas pulled out several legal documents and bank statements, laying them flat on the glass coffee table before Arthur. The papers contained bank transaction records, past court filings, and official foreclosure notices from another state three years ago.
Thomas: She is a serial scammer, Dad. She has done this to two other wealthy elderly men before.
Arthur: How could David not see this? He helped her approve the property transfer documents today!
Thomas: She showed David forged emails claiming you wanted to sell the estate and move into assisted living.
Arthur: I never wrote those emails! I love this home; I built it for you boys!
Thomas: I know, Dad. But look at this last document right here on the bottom of the stack.
Thomas pointed to a court document showing Evelyn had filed for an emergency motion to seize Arthur's trust fund. She was planning to drain his entire life savings before selling the physical house to an offshore investment corporation.
Arthur's sorrow turned into a spark of deep anger as he read through the evidence of her calculated betrayal. He wiped the tears from his cheeks, standing up straight with a renewed sense of purpose and strength.
Arthur: Call our family trust lawyer immediately, Thomas. We are going to put an end to this today.
Thomas: Already done, Dad. He is meeting us at the probate courthouse in thirty minutes with the police.
Arthur nodded firmly, stepping toward the doorway with his head held high, ready to fight for his dignity.
