The grand estate of the senior family patriarch stood imposing under the dark gray afternoon sky in town. Mark stepped out of his luxury sports car, smoothing his designer jacket as he walked toward the door. Inside the marble foyer, his wealthy family members were gathered for the annual corporate trust fund reading.
Evelyn: Mark, where is your wife? We expected to see our new grandchild at the estate today.
Mark: Sarah is resting comfortably at a specialized recovery facility, Mother. The birth was very difficult on her.
Evelyn: Such a shame. But the child is healthy and safe at home with the staff?
Mark: Absolutely healthy, Mother. The doctors confirmed she is a perfect match for our family lineage.
The heavy mahogany doors swung open with a loud thud, echoing across the grand two-story entry hall. Sarah walked inside, soaked in rainwater, flanked by two armed state troopers and a legal prosecutor.
Sarah: He is lying to every single one of you! Every word out of his mouth is false!
Evelyn: Sarah! What is the meaning of this outrageous entrance in front of our legal counsel?
Mark: Officers, my wife is mentally unstable! She escaped from her medical transport team this morning!
Prosecutor Reed: Stand down, Mr. Sterling. We have a federal warrant for your immediate arrest for child trafficking.
Mark stepped back, his face instantly draining of all color as the officers stepped around the marble table. The rest of the family gasped in collective horror, stepping away from Mark as if he were poisonous.
Evelyn: Child trafficking? Mark, what on earth is this lawyer talking about right now?
Prosecutor Reed: We decrypted the files on the USB drive Mrs. Sterling provided to our state task force.
Sarah: He paid a corrupt hospital technician fifty thousand dollars to swap my baby girl at birth!
Mark: That drive is fabricated evidence! She forged those financial records to ruin my corporate career!
Detective Miller: We already raided Dr. Vance's clinic an hour ago, Mr. Sterling. He confessed to everything.
The room fell into a dead, suffocating silence as Detective Miller pulled out a pair of steel handcuffs. Mark looked frantically around the room at his mother and brothers, but every single face turned completely away.
Evelyn: You traded your own flesh and blood for a seat on the board of directors?
Mark: Mother, listen to me! I did it to keep control of the company within our household!
Evelyn: You are no son of mine. You are a disgusting monster who brought shame on this family name.
Sarah: Where is my baby, Mark? Tell me where Dr. Vance kept my real daughter!
Mark: You will never find her without my legal cooperation, Sarah! You have nothing without me!
Prosecutor Reed: We already found her, Mr. Sterling. She is at the regional hospital receiving medical care right now.
Mark’s knees buckled as the cold steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his trembling wrists behind his back.
