The grand arena echoed with the loud cheers of the citizens as Caleb walked to the balcony edge, looking down at the thousands of people standing in the sun. The white lion stood beside him, resting its head against his arm.
Caleb: Today, the old law of fear is ended!
Guard Captain: What are your orders, Lord Caleb?
Caleb: Open the city granaries. Distribute the royal trust funds to every family affected by the taxes.
Elder Senator: And regarding Aurelius, my lord?
Caleb: Put him in the same cell he locked my mother in. Let him reflect on his greed.
King Aurelius: Mercy! Caleb, please, we are kin by blood!
Caleb: You showed no mercy when you took everything from my family. You will receive fairness, nothing more.
King Aurelius: I gave you your life when you were a child!
Caleb: You spared me only because you could not open the royal vault without my bloodline pendant.
The guards escorted Aurelius down the dark hallway behind the balcony, his shouts fading as the iron doors shut behind him.
