By late afternoon, the sun began to set over the vast city walls, casting long golden shadows across the stone floor of the grand court where Caleb sat surrounded by his supporters.
Elder Senator: The title documents have been fully restored, Lord Caleb. The inheritance is rightfully yours.
Caleb: Thank you, Senator. Ensure my mother is brought back from the provinces with full honors.
Guard Captain: The city guards have pledged their loyalty to you, Sire.
Caleb: I am not a king, Captain. I am a protector of this realm, just as my father was.
Guard Captain: The beast has not left your side for a single moment.
Caleb: He remembers his true master. My father raised his mother in these very courtyards.
Elder Senator: What shall we do with the golden pendant now?
Caleb: It will remain around my neck as a reminder that true authority comes from honor, not power.
Caleb looked out over the courtyard, watching the citizens celebrate their newfound freedom as the white lion let out a quiet, contented rumble beside him.
