The courtroom erupted into total chaos as bailiffs stepped forward, moving past Margarethe and pulling Evelyn out of her seat. Evelyn’s refined composure shattered completely as she struggled against the officers’ grip, her polished facade collapsing into desperate shrieks.
Evelyn: Get your hands off me! Marcus, tell them to stop! I did this for us! You were going to divorce me!
Marcus: Don't look at me! You set up my innocent daughter! You tried to ruin an innocent woman's life!
Judge Miller: Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for attempted capital murder, felony child abuse, and filing a false police report. Remand her into custody immediately without bond!
Evelyn: Marcus! Please! Call the lawyers!
The heavy doors of the courtroom shut behind Evelyn as she was dragged away in handcuffs, the sound of her crying echoing down the marble hallway. Judge Miller turned his attention back to the defense table, his expression softening as he looked at Margarethe.
Judge Miller: Miss Margarethe Miller, all charges against you are dismissed with prejudice. You are free to go. The court extends its deepest apologies for the ordeal you endured over the last twenty-four hours.
Margarethe: Thank you, Your Honor... Thank you so much.
Margarethe collapsed back into her chair, tears of relief flooding her eyes as Laura placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. Marcus Vance walked slowly toward the defense table, his head hung low in immense shame.
Marcus: Margarethe... I... I don't even know what to say. I said terrible things to you. I put you in handcuffs.
Margarethe: You trusted your wife, Mr. Vance. But you almost let her destroy three lives today.
Marcus: I was blind. If you hadn't risked your own body to dive across that floor, my daughter wouldn't be alive right now. You are an extraordinary human being, and I acted like a fool.
Margarethe: How is Lily? Is she okay?
Marcus: She’s safe at the pediatric hospital being checked over. She doesn't have a single scratch on her, thanks to you.
Marcus: I know money can't fix the trauma you went through, but I am instructing my corporate legal team to set up a full financial settlement for you. A complete estate home of your choice, paid in full, and a permanent annuity so you never have to work a day in your life unless you want to.
Margarethe: Mr. Vance, you don't have to do that—
Marcus: It is the bare minimum I owe you for saving my child’s life when her own mother tried to end it. Please, allow me to make this right.
Margarethe looked at Laura, who smiled and gave her a gentle nod of encouragement.
Margarethe: I accept, Mr. Vance. But on one condition.
Marcus: Anything. Name it.
Margarethe: I want to be allowed to visit Lily. She deserves to grow up knowing that someone was watching over her from the very beginning.
Marcus: You’ll always be part of this family, Margarethe. Always.
