The Final Settlement

The Maid Kept Her Phone Recording When the Baby Was Pushed

Judge: Court is now in session. Case number 4092, the State of Texas versus Mark Vance and Veronica Hayes.

Three months later, the high-ceilinged courtroom of the Dallas County Courthouse was packed with reporters, corporate executives, and onlookers. Elena sat quietly in the front row, wearing a neat navy blue suit that Richard had bought for her. Next to her sat Richard, holding little Noah on his lap.

Prosecutor: Your Honor, we present into evidence the video footage captured on the victim's patio, demonstrating intentional endangerment of a minor. Furthermore, we present the recovered blue folder containing fraudulent estate alterations, forged signatures, and illegal wire transfers totaling twelve million dollars.

Judge: Defense counsel, how do your clients plead to the charges of conspiracy to commit murder, high-level financial fraud, and child endangerment?

Defense Lawyer: Your Honor... my clients wish to change their plea to guilty on all counts, in exchange for a removal of the capital punishment consideration.

A loud gasp echoed throughout the courtroom gallery. Veronica, dressed in a orange prison jumpsuit with her hair disheveled and unwashed, burst into frantic tears at the defense table.

Veronica: No! Mark promised me we would get a plea bargain! I didn't push him to kill him, I just wanted the money!

Judge: Order in the court! Silence!

The judge slammed his wooden gavel three times, his stern eyes glaring down at the defense table with absolute disgust.

Judge: Veronica Hayes, your actions show a total lack of human compassion and unimaginable cruelty toward an innocent child. You are hereby sentenced to twenty-five years in state prison without the possibility of parole for fifteen years.

Veronica: NO! PLEASE! RICHARD, TELL THEM! TELL THEM YOU STILL LOVE ME!

Richard didn't even look up at her. He kept his arm gently around Noah, looking straight ahead as the court bailiffs grabbed Veronica and hauled her away through the side doors, her hysterical screams fading down the hallway.

Judge: Mark Vance, as an officer of the court, you abused your legal authority to plunder a grieving family's fortune. You are sentenced to thirty years in federal penitentiary, and your license to practice law is permanently revoked.

Mark bowed his head in silence, his face completely drained of color as the guards slapped heavy leg irons around his ankles, leading him away in chains.

Judge: Case dismissed.

The courtroom erupted into quiet murmurs as people began file out into the lobby. Richard stood up, adjusting his suit jacket, and turned toward Elena with a genuine smile that she hadn't seen on his face in years.

Richard: It's finally over, Elena. Noah is completely safe, and his mother's legacy is protected forever.

Elena: I'm so glad, Mr. Sterling. You and Noah can finally have the peace you deserve.

Richard: We can. But I also need to make sure you get what you deserve.

Elena: What do you mean, sir?

Richard reached into his briefcase and pulled out a fresh stack of legal documents bearing the red seal of the Texas State Department.

Richard: I had my new legal team draft this yesterday. I am establishing an educational foundation in your name, with a five-hundred-thousand-dollar initial trust fund. And as for your job at the house...

Elena: Mr. Sterling, you don't have to give me money! I was just doing what was right!

Richard: I know you were. And that's why I'm asking you to stay—not as a maid, but as the chief estate manager and Noah's legal guardian trustee. You are family now, Elena.
