Marcus: Elena, slow down! You're shaking like a leaf!
Elena sat in the small kitchen of her elder brother Marcus's apartment, her hands wrapped around a mug of lukewarm coffee. Her knees were bandaged, and her eyes were red from crying all afternoon.
Elena: Marcus, he kicked me out like I was trash. He thinks I tried to hurt little Lily.
Marcus: We need to call a lawyer right now. You can't let wealthy folks frame you for child endangerment!
Elena: It's not just about framing me, Marcus. Victoria was trying to drop that baby! I saw her hands push the blanket off the ledge!
Marcus stopped pacing the floor and stared at his younger sister in sheer disbelief.
Marcus: Are you out of your mind? Why would a mother drop her own seven-month-old baby off a second-floor balcony?
Elena: Because Victoria isn't Lily's biological mother!
Marcus dropped into the chair across from her, his expression turning deathly serious.
Marcus: What are you talking about? Richard and Victoria announced the baby's birth last year!
Elena: It was a surrogate pregnancy from Richard's late first wife, Sarah! Sarah passed away during childbirth, but her family left a fifteen-million-dollar trust fund exclusively for Lily!
Marcus: And Victoria married Richard six months later...
Elena: Exactly! Under Sarah's family will, if anything happens to Lily before her eighteenth birthday, the trust fund money reverts entirely to Richard... and his current legal spouse!
