Lawyer Marcus: Hello? Maria, is that you? Why are you calling so late?
Maria: Mr. Marcus, it happened. Victoria tried to get rid of the baby today.
Lawyer Marcus: What?! Is Emma okay?
Maria: I caught her. I saved her, but David threw me out. Victoria lied and told him I pushed her.
Lawyer Marcus: That manipulative monster. Where are you right now?
Maria: I'm standing outside the estate gates. My knees are bleeding, and I have nowhere to go tonight.
Lawyer Marcus: Stay right there. I'm coming to pick you up. We need to go over the trust fund documents again immediately.
Marcus Vance was David’s estranged older brother and the primary estate attorney who managed their late father’s massive trust fund. For months, Marcus and Maria had been quietly investigating Victoria’s sudden interest in the family money, but they hadn't anticipated she would go this far.
Twenty minutes later, a dark sedan pulled up to the curb. Marcus opened the passenger door, his face pale with concern as Maria climbed inside.
Lawyer Marcus: Let me look at your legs. My God, Maria, you took a terrible fall.
Maria: I didn't care about my legs. If that baby had hit the marble floor, she wouldn't have survived.
Lawyer Marcus: You're a hero, Maria. David is just too blind to see what's right in front of his face.
Maria: He loves his daughter, Marcus. Victoria is manipulating his grief and his stress. He believes every word she says.
Lawyer Marcus: He won't believe her for much longer. Did you get the audio recording like we planned?
Maria: My phone was recording in my apron pocket the entire time. Every single word.
Marcus took a deep breath, resting his hands on the steering wheel as he looked at the glowing screen of Maria's phone. He pressed play on the audio file, and the voices from the foyer filled the quiet car.
Victoria (Audio): If anything happens to that child, the entire inheritance comes directly to me, right? No split with David's family?
Lawyer Marcus: Is that from yesterday morning?
Maria: Yes. She was on the phone with her divorce lawyer in the kitchen while I was cleaning the pantry. She didn't realize I was inside.
Lawyer Marcus: Victoria doesn't just want David's wealth, Maria. She wants to clear the entire legal bloodline so she can claim the thirty-million-dollar estate settlement by herself.
Maria: We have to save David and the baby. She's going to try again, Marcus.
Lawyer Marcus: We aren't just going to save them. We're going to expose her in front of the entire family at the foundation gala tomorrow night.
Maria: What if David refuses to listen?
Lawyer Marcus: He won't have a choice. Because tomorrow night, the executor of the estate reads the final will, and Victoria is in for the shock of her life.
