The Maid Who Saved the Heir

The cold marble floor of the Dallas mansion echoed with a sickening crack as Maria hurled herself across the foyer. Above her, on the second-floor balcony, a blanketed bundle slipped through the ornate iron railings. Time seemed to freeze. The tiny bundle fell toward the hard tile below, but Maria didn’t hesitate. She dove, scraping her knees hard against the floor, and caught the child inches from disaster.

Maria: I’ve got you! You’re safe!

She pulled little Emma close to her chest, sobbing uncontrollably as her body shook. Tears blurred her vision, but she held the baby tight, checking every inch of her tiny body for injuries. The child was warm, breathing, and completely unharmed. Maria gasped for air, her heart pounding against her ribs like a sledgehammer.

Victoria: She tried to kill our baby! She dropped her!

A piercing scream rang out from the top of the stairs. Victoria, dressed in a silk robe, pointed a trembling finger down at Maria. Her face was twisted in anger as she looked down at the weeping maid. Before Maria could even process the words, the heavy front doors burst open. David stepped inside, his designer suit rumpled from a long day at his investment firm.

David: What the hell is going on here?

Victoria: David! Thank God you're home! Look at her! She pushed Emma off the balcony! She tried to murder our daughter!

Maria: No! Mr. Vance, please! I caught her! She was slipping—

David: Shut up! Don't you dare lie to me!

David marched over, his face flushed red with rage. He snatched the baby from Maria’s arms and glared down at the maid, his eyes cold and full of hatred. He didn't see the tiny camera hidden near the foyer artwork, nor did he know about the secret Victoria had been keeping for months.

David: Get out of my house right now before I call the police and have you locked away forever!

Maria looked up, her knuckles white, knowing that if she left now, the truth about what happened on that balcony would be buried forever.
