The Police Arrive

The Maid Who Saved the Heir

Maria: Did you call them, sir?

David: I called the state troopers from my car when I saw the balcony security feed on my phone camera.

Evelyn: You called the police on me? Your own family?

David: You stopped being my family the moment you put a baby's life in danger.

The heavy front doors burst open again, and four uniformed police officers rushed into the grand foyer, their hands resting on their holsters.

Officer Miller: Nobody move! Hands where we can see them!

David: Officer, over here. My name is David Vance. I own this property.

Officer Miller: Mr. Vance, we received a 911 report of attempted child endangerment and physical assault.

Evelyn: Officer! Thank goodness you're here! This woman—this maid—tried to steal my baby! My husband is confused, he doesn't know what he's saying!

Officer Miller: Ma'am, step back against the wall and keep your hands visible.

David: Officer, I have high-definition security footage recorded on my cloud server showing my wife dropping the child over the second-floor balcony railing. The maid caught him.

Officer Miller: Is this true, ma'am?

Evelyn: It was an accident! I slipped on the rug!

Maria: She screamed 'Say goodbye' before she let go of him, Officer. I was standing directly beneath her.

Officer Miller: Check the balcony cameras, Roberts. Secure the handbag on the floor as evidence.

Second officer walked over and carefully picked up the white envelope containing the DNA test results, placing it in a clear plastic evidence bag.

Officer Roberts: Sir, the camera footage on the hallway monitor is clear. She intentionally lifted the swaddled bundle over the edge and released it.

Officer Miller: Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for attempted murder, child endangerment, and illegal kidnapping.

Evelyn: You can't handcuff me! Do you know who my family is? My lawyer will have you fired by morning!

Officer Miller: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

As the metal handcuffs clicked around Evelyn's wrists, she twisted her head back toward Maria, her eyes wild with rage.

Evelyn: You ruined everything! You were supposed to just clean the floors!

Maria: My family may be poor, Mrs. Vance, but we don't buy and sell children.
