The Maid Who Saved the Heir

The cold wind whistled past the grand tenth-floor balcony of the suburban luxury house. Down below, the white marble floor of the foyer glistened under the bright lights, smooth, polished, and unforgiving. Stepmother Victoria stood near the carved railing, her hands gripped tightly around the tiny frame of one-year-old Lily. Her eyes were dark, consumed by a bitter hatred that had been festering ever since she married into the vast estate.

Victoria: You don't belong in this family. You never did!

The innocent baby babbled, completely unaware of the terrifying height or the cruel intent in the woman's eyes. Down in the foyer, Elena, the house maid, walked in with a basket of fresh linens. She glanced up just in time to see Victoria leaning far over the ten-story drop, holding the small child out into empty space. Elena dropped the basket immediately, her heart slamming against her ribs as absolute terror surged through her vein.

Elena: No! Mrs. Victoria, please stop!

Victoria: GET OUT OF MY LIFE!

With a malicious scream, Victoria released her grip. The tiny baby girl plummeted toward the hard marble floor below. Elena didn't hesitate for a single second. Sprinting across the slick floor with desperate speed, she dove toward the center of the foyer, extending her arms into the open air just as the baby dropped through the vast opening.

Elena: I've got you! Come here, baby!

A sharp wind swooshed past as Elena slammed onto the hard marble, catching the crying child securely against her chest a split second before impact. She clutched the trembling baby tight, tears pouring down her cheeks. Just then, the heavy double entrance doors slammed open with a deafening crash, revealing David, the master of the house, returning early from his corporate board meeting.

David: WHAT HAPPENED?!

Elena: She threw her down! She threw your daughter from the tenth floor!
