The glittering Dallas penthouse was packed with high-society elites, all dressed in formal tuxedos and shimmering gowns. Music echoed off the marble floors while servers carried expensive champagne across the room. At the center of the floor stood Victoria Vance, heiress to Vance Enterprises, her sparkling gold sequin dress reflecting the warm lights. She twirled gracefully, holding a crystal glass, soaking in the admiration of everyone around her.
Victoria: Isn't this evening just perfection? Look at them all, Marcus. They came for us.
Marcus: You always know how to host a crowd, Victoria. The whole city is talking about this party.
Standing quietly near the edge of the room was Elena, a fair-skinned young maid wearing a plain black uniform with a neatly tied white apron. Her dark hair was slicked back, and her face remained entirely calm as she held a heavy tray of silver serving glasses. She didn't look up, nor did she join in the surrounding laughter. She simply stood where she was instructed to stand, waiting for the evening to end.
Victoria: Oh, look at my poor maid. She looks so dreadfully bored standing over there by the US flag artwork.
Marcus: Leave her alone, Victoria. She's just doing her job.
Victoria: Nonsense, Marcus. A real hostess makes sure everyone contributes to the entertainment.
Victoria strutted across the marble floor, her expensive high heels clicking loudly against the stone. The guests began to quiet down, sensing an unexpected drama unfolding before them. Victoria stopped directly in front of Elena, a cruel smile playing on her lips.
Victoria: You there, maid. My shoe buckle feels slightly loose. Bend down and adjust it for me right now.
Elena: Ma'am, my duty tonight is strictly serving beverages to the guests.
Victoria: Did I ask for your opinion? I asked you to fix my shoe.
Elena didn't move an inch. She kept her eyes fixed forward, her hands tightly gripping the silver tray.
Victoria: Fine, if you won't bow down, I'll bring the shoe to you.
Victoria suddenly lifted her right leg, resting the sharp heel of her sparkling shoe directly onto Elena's clean apron, smudging dirt onto the white fabric. The room gasped in collective shock at the blatant humiliation. Marcus paused mid-sip, his eyes widening in utter astonishment as champagne nearly spilled from his glass.
Elena: Remove your foot, Victoria.
Victoria: Or what? You're just a hired hand in my father's house. You'll do as I say!
Elena slowly set her serving tray on a nearby side table. She reached down, grabbed Victoria's ankle with a grip as cold and firm as iron, and pushed the shoe off her apron with effortless control. The entire penthouse fell dead silent. The party music seemed to freeze in the air.
Elena stepped forward, her unblinking eyes locking onto Victoria's trembling face.
Elena: DON'T TRY THAT AGAIN.
Victoria staggered back, her face turning pale as she realized the woman standing in the maid's uniform wasn't a maid at all.
