Justice in the Penthouse

The Maid Who Stopped the Gala Cold

Elena: Now you get to see what happens when the real owner comes back to reclaim what was stolen.

Victoria: What do you want from me? Do you want me to beg? Do you want me to get down on my knees like you wanted me to do?

Elena: I don't need you to beg, Victoria. I just need you to vacate my property before the deputy marshals walk through those doors.

Two men in heavy dark suits walked out from the service hallway, carrying official badge lanyards around their necks and clipboard files under their arms.

Federal Agent: Miss Elena Sterling? We have completed the lockdown of the lower parking garage and secured the corporate accounts as requested by the federal district court order.

Elena: Thank you, Agent Miller. Please ensure Miss Vance hands over all high-value corporate items before she exits the premises.

Agent Miller: Miss Vance, we need you to remove the diamond necklace, the emerald bracelet, and return the keys to the luxury vehicles registered under the Vance corporate lease contract.

Victoria: No! This necklace was given to me on my twenty-first birthday! It's mine!

Agent Miller: Miss Vance, the purchase receipt for that necklace shows it was paid directly out of the Vance Logistics employee pension reserve fund. It is direct evidence in a grand jury investigation. Hand it over immediately, or you will be placed under arrest for obstruction of justice.

Victoria's hands trembled uncontrollably as she unclasped the heavy diamond chain from her neck, handing it over to the officer with tears streaming down her face, smudging her expensive makeup.

Victoria: My dress... my shoes... everything I have... how am I supposed to leave like this?

Elena: You can walk out the same way my mother and I walked out ten years ago when your father kicked us out of our family home with nothing but the clothes on our backs.

Victoria: Where am I supposed to go? I don't have anywhere to go!

Elena: You can go find a job, Victoria. I hear there are plenty of service positions available downtown. Maybe someone will hire you as a maid... if you can learn some basic manners first.

Victoria looked around the massive, empty penthouse. The bright party lights shone down on dirty empty glasses, shattered crystal, and scattered napkins. All her high-society friends were gone, her fiance had abandoned her, and her father was in handcuffs.
