A Secret Underneath the Apron

The Maid Who Stopped the Gala Cold

Victoria: How dare you touch me! Do you have any idea who I am? My father owns this entire penthouse complex!

Elena: I know exactly who your father is, Victoria. And more importantly, I know where every dollar of his estate came from.

Marcus: Victoria, stop talking right now. Look at her face... don't you recognize her?

Victoria: Recognize her? She's nobody! Just some temp worker hired from an agency to clear dirty glasses!

Elena: A temp worker who happens to hold fifty-one percent of the voting shares in Vance Enterprises as of eight o'clock this morning.

A loud murmur washed over the wealthy guests in the room. Victoria's mouth opened, but no words came out. She looked at Marcus, hoping for him to deny it, but Marcus looked completely horrified, his champagne glass shaking violently in his hand.

Marcus: Victoria... it's true. The anonymous buyer who bought up the distressed debt from the offshore trust last week... it was registered under the Sterling Legal Trust.

Victoria: The Sterling family? But they went bankrupt ten years ago after my father's firm took over their shipping line!

Elena: My father didn't go bankrupt, Victoria. Your father forged the power of attorney documents while my dad was in the hospital, stolen through a fake bankruptcy petition filed in Dallas probate court.

Victoria: That's a lie! My father is a respected businessman and philanthropist!

Elena: Your father is currently sitting in a federal holding cell down downtown, arrested thirty minutes ago by federal agents for tax fraud and grand larceny.

Victoria's face drained of all color. She reached out to grab Marcus's arm for support, but Marcus instinctively took a step back, distancing himself from her in front of the entire crowd.

Victoria: Marcus? What are you doing? Tell her she's crazy! Call security and have this woman thrown out onto the street!

Marcus: I can't do that, Victoria. If what she's saying about the corporate restructuring is true... she literally owns the floor we're standing on right now.

Elena: The security staff in this building answered to my legal team as of two hours ago. Every guard here knows exactly who pays their salary now.

Victoria: This is a setup... you dressed up as a maid just to embarrass me in front of my friends!

Elena: You embarrassed yourself, Victoria. I wore this uniform to see how you treated people who couldn't fight back. And you proved to everyone in this city exactly what kind of person you really are.

Elena reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a thick document bound in a red folder, tossing it onto the crystal display table near the US flag artwork.

Elena: That is the formal notice of foreclosure on this penthouse and the immediate termination of your family's executive expense accounts.

Victoria: You can't evict me from my own home!

Elena: It's not your home anymore, Victoria. As of tonight, you are a guest... and your invitation has just been revoked.
