The Officer Returns

The Master Executor

Outside on the sunlit porch, Officer Mark Davis adjusted his cap and walked along the perimeter fence. He noticed a black luxury sedan parked illegally behind the overgrown rose bushes near the side gate.

He pulled out his notepad, running the license plate number through his police department dispatch radio system. The dispatcher confirmed the vehicle belonged to a private law firm associated with contested inheritance cases.

Mark's instinct immediately kicked in as he realized an unauthorized person had entered the property before his shift. He turned around instantly and ran back toward the massive dark wooden double doors of the hall.

He grabbed the ornate brass handles and threw the heavy doors open wide, stepping inside with his hand on his holster. The sudden movement flooded the darkened room with bright, warm afternoon sunlight once again.

Mark: Police! Nobody move!

Julian broke free from Evelyn's grip, stepping back while holding the intact parchment high in his right hand. Evelyn froze instantly, her face turning pale as she looked at the uniformed officer standing in the light.

Julian: Officer Davis! She trespassed on the property and attempted to steal official estate trust documents!

Evelyn: I have full legal power of attorney to inspect this house for my client!

Mark: Your power of attorney does not grant you permission to break into a sealed property or assault an heir.

Mark drew his handcuffs from his utility belt, stepping forward with a authoritative, stern posture. He commanded Evelyn to turn around and place her hands behind her back without causing further resistance.

Evelyn: This is an outrageous mistake! My lawyers will have this whole security detail dismissed by evening!

Mark: You can explain your position to the magistrate at the county courthouse, ma'am.
