Maya did not flinch as David loomed over her, his veins bulging against his stiff collar.
Maya: Take your hands off this table, David.
David: Or what? You're still just a girl from upstate with a community college degree. You don't have the stomach to fight real power.
Attorney Vance: Mr. Sterling, step back right now. If you make another threatening gesture toward Ms. Lin, the security guards waiting outside will detain you until local law enforcement arrives.
David slowly backed away, running both hands through his slicked hair, pacing wildly across the oriental rug.
David: Listen to me, Maya. Let’s be reasonable here. Forty million dollars is more money than you can ever manage. The taxes alone will drown you in debt within two years.
Maya: Eleanor took care of that. The entire transfer is structured through a protected estate trust.
David: I’ll make you a generous settlement offer. Right here, right now, in front of Vance. Five million dollars cash. Clean, immediate, untaxed wire transfer. You walk away, and we drop all pending fraud investigations against you.
Maya: You don't have five million dollars, David. You're facing foreclosure on your luxury loft in Manhattan.
David froze in mid-stride, his jaw dropping in sheer disbelief.
David: What did you say?
Maya: You heard me. The bank notice arrived yesterday morning. You haven't paid your mortgage in four months because your business accounts were frozen pending Eleanor's forensic audit.
Victoria: David! Is that true?! Are you broke?!
David: Shut up, Victoria!
Victoria: If he’s broke, and I only have one dollar, how am I going to pay my legal team?!
Maya: That isn't my concern anymore, Victoria. For seven years, you made me carry your shopping bags whenever you visited. You treated me like dirt under your designer shoes.
Victoria: Maya, please... we can talk about this. I was under enormous stress with my divorce lawyer and the child custody hearings!
Maya: Eleanor offered to pay for your children's private schooling, but you demanded cash instead so you could lease a private jet for your birthday party.
Victoria: That was an investment in my personal brand!
Maya: Eleanor saw right through every lie you told her. She loved you both, but you treated her like an ATM with a pulse.
David suddenly lunged toward the attorney’s desk, attempting to snatch the signed will from Vance’s hands.
Attorney Vance: Don't be a fool, David!
Before David could touch the paper, the side door clicked open, and two armed security officers stepped into the room.
Security Officer: Step away from the counselor, Mr. Sterling.
David: Get your hands off me! I own this house! This is my grandfather's estate!
Attorney Vance: As of twelve noon today, you own nothing on this property, David. The deed is officially registered under the Lin Heritage Trust.
David looked wildly around the room, realization finally dawning on him that his threats carried no weight.
David: You planned this. Both of you planned this while my grandmother was dying!
Attorney Vance: The only plan executed here was Mrs. Sterling's final wish to protect her life’s work from being destroyed by reckless parasites.
Maya: Eleanor told me one last thing before she slipped away, David. Do you want to know what it was?
David stared at her with raw hatred burning in his eyes.
David: What did she say?
Maya: She said, 'Give David the blue envelope in my dresser drawer. It contains everything he truly earned from me.'
