The bright Texas sun poured through the high arching windows of the luxury Dallas foyer, casting long shadows across the polished white marble. Clara stood near the grand entrance, her hands trembling as she clutched a worn leather folder against her chest. She had spent five long years enduring cold glances, quiet insults, and subtle rejections, but today was supposed to be different. Today was the reading of the family asset distribution, and she had promised her late father-in-law that she would finally show up and take a stand for her husband, Julian.
Victoria: You really thought you could just walk back in here after everything?
Victoria stepped into the foyer, her expensive red high heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. Her face was twisted in pure disdain as she narrowed her eyes at Clara.
Clara: I came here because Arthur asked me to be here before he passed. He wanted the whole family present.
Victoria: Arthur was an old man whose mind was fading! You are nothing but a gold-digger who tricked my brother into a cheap marriage. You do not belong in this family!
Before Clara could react, Victoria took a sudden step forward, her arm swinging with full force. A sharp, loud slap echoed through the grand house as Victoria's palm struck Clara's cheek, forcing Clara's head to snap to the side. The impact left a stinging red mark across her skin, and Clara gasped, tears instantly springing to her wide eyes.
Victoria: Get out of my house right now before I have security throw you onto the street!
With a harsh, violent shove, Victoria slammed her hands into Clara's shoulders. Clara lost her footing on the slick marble and tumbled backward, crashing onto the cold floor. The leather folder slipped from her grasp, spilling papers across the white tiles. Victoria stood over her, laughing softly in triumph.
Julian: Get your hands off my wife!
Heavy, rapid footsteps thundered down the grand hallway as Julian rushed into the foyer. His face was pale with shock, but his eyes burned with sudden, protective fury. He instantly dropped to his knees beside Clara, wrapping a strong arm around her shaking shoulders and helping her up from the floor.
Victoria: Julian, don't be ridiculous! She's trespassing on family property. I'm just protecting our family estate!
Julian: Protect it? You have no right to lay a finger on her or step foot in this house!
Julian pulled a folded document from his dark suit jacket and held it high, his voice echoing through the massive high-key entrance. Victoria blinked in confusion, her smug expression suddenly faltering.
Julian: She is the rightful owner of this estate!
Victoria: What? No... that is impossible! The master trust belongs to me!
Julian: You lied, you forged the living trust papers, and you thought nobody would ever check the original land registry in Austin!
Without warning, Julian took a sharp step forward and delivered a swift, ringing slap across Victoria's face. The force of the counter-strike sent Victoria stumbling backward, her high heels catching on the rug before she crashed heavily onto the marble floor. She let out a frantic gasp, holding her bruised cheek in disbelief.
Julian: You are going straight to federal prison!
Julian grabbed Victoria firmly by the arm, pulling her toward the front doors as she screamed and clawed at the air. But as Clara gathered the fallen papers from the floor, her eyes caught a single hand-written note from Arthur that made her heart completely freeze.
