Police Officer: Sir, step out of the hallway and keep your hands where we can see them.
Mark: Officer, please! My sister is inside that wall. She needs immediate medical help.
Paramedic: Clear the way! Bringing the stretcher in now!
The Dallas home was filled with flashing red and blue lights within ten minutes. Paramedics carefully helped Clara out of the hidden narrow space, placing a warm blanket around her trembling shoulders. Mark stood near the entrance, holding a crying Lily in his arms as detectives secured the property with yellow police tape.
Detective Vance: Mr. Miller, I need you to tell me exactly what happened here today.
Mark: My daughter pointed at the wardrobe. She heard tapping noises behind the drywall.
Detective Vance: And you had no idea this secret compartment existed in your house?
Mark: None at all! We bought this place four years ago. Sarah handled all the renovations and interior redesigns.
Detective Vance: Your sister, Clara Miller, went missing three years ago. According to our files, her entire estate and trust fund were liquidated six months after her disappearance.
Mark: Sarah managed all the paperwork. She said the probate court granted us authorization because Clara had no will.
Detective Vance: Your wife didn't act alone, Mr. Miller. A setup like this requires contractor-level work, hidden wiring, and legal power of attorney forged through a official legal office.
Mark: Who else could be involved in this?
Detective Vance: That’s what we are going to find out. Where is your wife right now?
Mark: She fled in her car right before you arrived. She took the grey sedan.
While the detectives radioed in an all-points bulletin for Sarah’s vehicle, the head paramedic walked over to Mark with a quiet expression on his face.
Paramedic: Sir, your sister is conscious and asking to speak with you before we transport her to the hospital.
Mark: Clara! I'm right here.
Clara: Mark... don't trust... don't trust the family lawyer...
Mark: What? What are you talking about?
Clara: Lawyer Vance... he worked with Sarah... he framed the missing person report...
Mark: Wait, Vance? The detective here is named Vance!
Mark turned around abruptly, but Detective Vance was already walking swiftly toward his unmarked police cruiser parked near the driveway. Mark felt a sudden surge of panic and adrenaline. The entire system surrounding Clara’s disappearance had been rigged from the inside by people he trusted.
Mark: Hey! Vance! Stop right there!
Detective Vance: Get back inside the house, Mr. Miller! This is an active crime scene!
Mark: You knew about this! You helped Sarah forge those estate documents three years ago!
Detective Vance: You don't know what you're talking about, kid. Get out of my way!
Vance reached for his belt holster, his eyes filled with desperate anger as he realized his cover was completely blown.
Mark: Drop the gun! Officers, grab him!
Two uniformed officers stationed near the lawn reacted instantly, tackling Detective Vance to the grass before he could draw his firearm. The driveway exploded into chaos as handcuffs clicked shut around the corrupt detective's wrists.
Uniformed Officer: You have the right to remain silent, Vance. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Detective Vance: You idiot, Mark! You have no idea how deep this goes! The whole trust fund was already spent!
Mark: I don't care about the money! I care about my sister!
Mark watched as they shoved Vance into the back of a police cruiser. But even as the corrupt officer was taken away, Mark knew Sarah was still out there somewhere with the remaining assets and a dangerous desire to protect herself at any cost.
