Mark: What are you saying, Maria? How could you have read my late wife's legal files?
Vanessa: Don't listen to her, Mark! She’s an intruder! She’s been snooping through our private life since the day you hired her!
Maria: I didn't apply for this maid job by accident, Mr. Mark. I took this job because I knew what Vanessa was planning before she even moved into this estate.
Mark: Explain yourself right now, Maria. My head is spinning.
Maria: Clara was my sister.
The grand room fell completely silent. Mark stared at the housekeeper, his jaw dropping as he took in her features—the same dark green eyes, the same quiet resolve that Clara had possessed before her sudden illness last year.
Mark: Clara’s... sister? Clara told me her sister lived in Chicago and cut contact years ago.
Maria: We didn't cut contact because of a fight, Mark. We went low profile because Clara was terrified of Vanessa’s family business associates in Texas.
Vanessa: This is complete insanity! Call the police and have this crazy woman thrown off our property!
Mark: Sit down, Vanessa! Don't move a single muscle!
Mark walked over to the landline on the marble side table and dialed a ten-digit number without taking his eyes off his wife.
Mark: Arthur? It’s Mark. I need you at the house immediately. Bring the original trust fund files for Clara’s estate and a police escort.
Vanessa: Mark, you’re making a massive mistake! You're trusting a servant over your own wedded wife!
Mark: A servant who just dove into a freezing pool to save my baby while you stood on the concrete smiling!
Maria: Look at the notary stamp on that insurance policy, Mr. Mark. The notary’s name is Julian Vance.
Mark: Julian Vance... that’s the name of your ex-fiancé, isn't it, Vanessa?
Vanessa’s cheeks flushed deep red as she took two small steps back toward the hallway door.
Vanessa: Julian is a certified public notary! There’s nothing illegal about using a professional contact!
Maria: Except Julian Vance lost his notary license two years ago for grand larceny and forgery in Florida!
Mark: You forged Clara’s trust amendments using a disgraced ex-partner?
Vanessa: I did what I had to do! You were keeping all of Clara’s millions locked away for a child that isn't even old enough to walk while I sat here living off a monthly allowance!
Mark: You married me for Clara’s inheritance money?
Vanessa: I married you because you were weak and grieving! And now you want to act like a hero father?
Vanessa suddenly bolted toward the grand staircase, her heels clicking loudly against the polished floorboards as she raced upstairs.
