The clear video showed Lily falling through the air, her scream echoing through the speaker of Arthur's phone as her small body impacted the hard oak floor below. On the recording, Evelyn stood on the balcony for five cold seconds, watching the child groan in pain without moving a muscle to help her.
Video Footage (Evelyn): That will teach you to stay out of my way.
The video continued to play in brutal detail. Evelyn calmly walked down the grand staircase, grabbed a dustpan from the pantry, swept up every shard of glass from the shattered picture frame, and stuffed the debris into her luxury designer handbag inside the closet. Less than twenty seconds later, the front door burst open, and Arthur rushed inside.
Detective Miller: That is more than enough evidence. Step away from the table, Mrs. Vance.
Evelyn: Wait! No! You don't understand the context! She was driving me crazy! She was constantly bringing up her dead mother to manipulate Arthur against me!
Arthur: She is a seven-year-old child grieving her mother, you monster!
Evelyn: Arthur, please! I did it for us! So we could have a real family without her constantly holding us back in the past!
Arthur: Don't speak another word to me.
Detective Miller grabbed Evelyn’s wrists, pulling them firmly behind her back as he clicked a pair of heavy steel handcuffs into place around her wrists.
Detective Miller: Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for attempted aggravated child abuse, domestic battery, and tampering with physical evidence. You have the right to remain silent.
Evelyn: Arthur! Call my father! Tell him to get his lawyers down here right now! You can't let them take me in like this!
Arthur: Your father’s lawyers won't be able to save you from this video tape, Evelyn. And as of tonight, I am revoking your access to every marital bank account and estate property under my control.
Evelyn: You'll lose everything! My father will pull every single investor out of your company by morning!
Marcus: Let him try, Mrs. Vance. Under state law, any attempt to retaliate against a victim of a felony crime will result in immediate civil asset seizure and additional criminal charges for corporate extortion.
Officer Davis escorted the crying, shouting woman out the front door into the bright flashing red and blue lights of the waiting police cruiser. The front door clicked shut, leaving Arthur and Marcus standing in the quiet foyer under the warm light of the chandelier.
Marcus: I'll file the emergency divorce papers and the sole custody protection orders first thing at eight o'clock tomorrow morning. She won't ever come within five hundred yards of Lily again.
Arthur: Thank you, Marcus. Make sure her father gets a copy of that video link, too. Let him see what kind of daughter he raised.
Arthur walked over to the hallway closet, pulled out Evelyn's designer purse, and carefully reached inside until his fingers brushed against the smooth velvet backing of his late wife’s photo. The frame was gone, but the picture itself was intact, saved from the destruction.
He smoothed out the slight crease in the paper with his thumb, looking at his late wife’s smiling face in the quiet house. Then he walked out the door, locking it firmly behind him, and drove straight back to the hospital to place the photo gently on his daughter's bedside table.
