Eleanor: Watch your tone with me, Mark! I built this family's fortune! Without me, you are nothing!
Mark: You built a fortune, Eleanor, but you destroyed every relationship you ever touched. My father left you, your lawyers fear you, and your own son walked away from millions just to get away from your toxicity.
Eleanor: You'll be back on your knees when my legal team files that visitation petition on Monday morning!
Mark: Oh, you mean this petition right here?
Mark pulled out the court notice from the envelope and held it right in front of Eleanor's face. He slowly tore the paper right down the middle, letting the white pieces fall onto her polished marble floor.
Eleanor: You idiot! Tearing a piece of paper doesn't stop my attorneys!
Mark: No, but this recording will.
Mark pulled his smartphone out from his jacket pocket and tapped the screen. A loud, clear voice erupted from the phone's speaker—it was Eleanor's voice from yesterday's conversation with Sarah.
Phone Voice (Eleanor): "If Sarah signs the trust paper without telling Mark, I will transfer one hundred thousand dollars directly into her personal account to cover her secret credit card debt..."
Eleanor's face drained of all color. Her hand shook so violently that red wine spilled over the edge of her crystal glass, staining her silk blouse.
Eleanor: Where... where did you get that?
Mark: Our home security camera records audio, Eleanor. You offered my wife a bribe to sign away custody rights without my knowledge. In the state of Texas, that's called attempted custodial interference and financial coercion.
Sarah: You thought I would betray my husband for a cash handout? You really don't know what a real family looks like, do you?
Mark: If you file a single lawsuit against us, or if you ever step foot on my property again, I will release this full recording to the state bar association and the local news stations. Let's see how your prestigious law firm handles a bribery scandal.
Eleanor stood frozen, unable to speak a single word as her own legal strategy collapsed right in front of her.
Liam: Daddy, pizza home?
Mark: Yes, buddy. Let's go home and finish our dinner.
Mark turned his back on his mother, holding Sarah's hand firmly as they walked out of the mansion into the night. They drove back to their warm suburban home, sitting together around the oak table. Mark picked up a slice of pizza, looking at his son with a proud smile.
Mark: Can I eat now, Liam?
Liam: Mama take bite first!
Sarah: Go ahead, Mark. Our real family eats together.
