No Way Out

The Yellow Rose She Crushed

Brenda: Mark, please! Cancel the call! Tell them it was a mistake! A family misunderstanding!

Mark: A mistake? Look at my daughter's face, Brenda. Look at her crying in her grandfather's arms. The only mistake I made was bringing a monster like you into my home.

Brenda: I’ll sign a prenup waiver! I’ll sign whatever paperwork your lawyer wants! Just don't let them arrest me!

Grandpa Arthur: It’s far too late for legal deals, Brenda. Justice has arrived.

A loud, authoritative knock echoed off the front door, followed by a stern voice calling out from the porch.

Officer Davis: Texas State Police! Open the door!

Mark walked over to the door, unlocking it and pulling it wide open. Two uniformed officers stepped into the foyer, their eyes immediately scanning the room and landing on the crying child held by Arthur, and then on the terrified woman standing near the sofa.

Officer Davis: We received a 911 call reporting child endangerment and domestic assault. Who made the call?

Mark: I did, Officer. I’m Mark Vance. This is my father, Arthur, and my daughter, Lily.

Officer Davis: Sir, what happened here?

Mark: My wife, Brenda Vance, just physical assaulted my three-year-old daughter. She struck her across the face hard enough to knock her down.

Brenda: That is a complete lie! It was an accident! She slipped on her dress and I tried to catch her!

Grandpa Arthur: She smashed the child's flower and slapped her face in cold blood, Officer! We have the entire incident recorded on our home security system in 4K resolution with clear audio.

Officer Miller: Ma'am, step away from the furniture and keep your hands where we can see them.

Brenda: You can't do this to me! Do you know who my family is? My lawyer will have your badges for this!

Officer Davis: Ma'am, place your hands behind your back. You are under arrest for injury to a child and domestic violence.

Officer Miller stepped forward, pulling pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt. Brenda tried to pull back, turning toward the back door, but Officer Miller swiftly grabbed her wrists, snapping the cold metal cuffs tightly around her hands.

Brenda: Ouch! You're hurting me! Mark, tell them to stop! You can't let them take me to jail like a common criminal!

Mark: You earned every bit of this, Brenda. And tomorrow morning, my legal team will file for an emergency annulment and a full restraining order.

Brenda: You won't get away with this! I have rights to this house! I am your legal wife!

Grandpa Arthur: A wife who abuses a helpless toddler has no rights in this house, nor in any court in Texas.
