Inside the air-conditioned study of the mansion, the atmosphere was deadly quiet. Officer Davis stood in front of a multi-monitor display on the massive mahogany desk, with Sarah holding a blanket-wrapped Lily right beside him. Victoria stood near the doorway, flanked by a second officer, her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
Officer Davis: Elena, bring up the backyard camera feed from twenty minutes ago.
Elena: Yes, sir. Replaying footage from 2:15 PM.
The screen flickered, showing the clear backyard view. The red petals floated on the surface of the pool. On screen, tiny Lily could be seen sitting by the edge, tapping her shoes against the stone. Seconds later, Victoria walked into the frame, her face cold and calm. She looked around the patio, paused for a brief moment, and then deliberately thrust her hand out, pushing the baby directly into the deep water.
Officer Davis: Good Lord...
Sarah: Look at that! Look at what she did! She didn't even reach out to catch her! She just stood there watching!
Victoria: That... that isn't what happened! The camera angle makes it look worse than it was!
Officer Davis: Ma'am, the camera angle shows you clearly extending both arms and shoving a toddler into seven feet of water. You made no effort to help her until the maid jumped in.
Victoria: I froze! I was in shock!
Officer Davis: You were in shock, but you had time to stand there for ten seconds without moving a muscle?
Just then, the study door burst open. Richard Miller stepped into the room, out of breath, his tie loosened around his collar. He looked frantically between his ex-wife, his current wife, and the police officer.
Richard: What the hell is going on here? Victoria, why did you call me saying the police were at the house?
Sarah: Look at the screen, Richard! Look at what your wife just did to your daughter!
Richard: What? What are you talking about?
Officer Davis pointed to the monitor, hitting the rewind button and playing the five-second clip once more. Richard stared at the screen, his face turning pale as he watched Victoria push little Lily into the pool.
Richard: Victoria... is that... did you push my daughter?
Victoria: Richard, darling, listen to me! She was going to ruin everything! If you give Sarah custody, she'll take half your trust fund! I did it for us!
Richard: You tried to drown my daughter for money?! Are you insane?!
Victoria: It was an accident! I didn't think she would sink that fast!
Richard: Get away from me! Don't you ever touch me again!
Officer Davis: Victoria Miller, turn around and place your hands behind your back.
Victoria: You can't arrest me! Do you know who my lawyers are?! Richard, tell him to stop!
Richard: I'm calling my divorce lawyer right now. And I'm making sure you don't get a single dime from my family estate.
