Wealthy CEO Forcing Children to Study Realizes His Mistake

The heavy silence inside the grand house felt more painful than the screaming arguments of the previous hour. Eleanor was helped back to her room by a private nurse, while the younger children huddled together on the living room sofa, completely unable to sleep. Richard stood alone in the dark foyer, staring at a framed painting of an American flag hanging on the wood wall.

He had bought this estate believing it was the ultimate symbol of success and security. He had spent millions accumulating luxury assets, estate property, and corporate shares to guarantee his family's high status. Yet, as he looked around the cold, quiet house, he realized that not a single dollar in his bank account could fix the deep emotional damage he had caused.

He slowly walked down the hallway toward Marcus's bedroom, his footsteps echoing on the hard oak floors. The door was slightly cracked, showing a faint warm light from inside. Richard pushed the door open gently and stepped into the room.

Marcus sat on the edge of his bed, holding a small wooden carving he had made as a child before the strict study schedules took over his life. Tears still stained his pale cheeks, and his shoulders shook with quiet, solitary grief.

Richard: Marcus? May I sit down with you for a moment?

Marcus did not look up, but he shifted slightly, allowing his father to sit on the opposite side of the mattress.

Marcus: If you came here to talk about college applications, I don't want to hear it.

Richard: I didn't come to talk about college applications or grades tonight.

Richard reached out, his hand trembling slightly as he placed it on his son's shoulder. Marcus winced at first, but he did not pull away from the contact.

Richard: When I was young, my family lost everything we owned in a single month.

Marcus turned his head slowly, looking at his father with a mix of exhaustion and faint surprise.

Richard: We were evicted from our apartment, and I swore I would never let my future children feel that fear.

Marcus: So you made us fear you instead of the world outside?

Richard: Yes... I thought money and absolute perfection were the only things that could keep you safe.

Richard's voice cracked, a rare show of raw emotion that Marcus had never witnessed before in his entire life.

Richard: But seeing you break down tonight... seeing your mother's pain reflected in your eyes...

Marcus: It hurt so much, Dad. Every single day was a constant nightmare.

Richard: I was so focused on building an empire that I ruined the lives of the people inside it.

Richard closed his eyes, tears finally escaping his own eyelids as he felt the heavy burden of his mistakes crashing down upon him.

Richard: I am so deeply sorry, Marcus. I broke your heart, and I broke this family.

Marcus stared at his father, seeing for the first time a frail, flawed human being rather than an unyielding tyrant.
