The Hidden Camera

When He Found Her on the Floor, the Truth Came Out

Evelyn: Homicide? You've gone completely out of your mind!

Arthur: Sit down on that bottom step and don't move.

Evelyn: I am your wife! You can't treat me like a criminal in my own home!

Arthur: This hasn't been your home since the day you signed that prenup, Evelyn. You signed away rights to the property if there was ever proof of domestic misconduct.

Evelyn: Misconduct? This was an accident! No judge in this state will take the word of an old housekeeper and a terrified child over mine!

Arthur: You always were too arrogant to pay attention to the house upgrades.

Evelyn: What upgrades?

Arthur: Look at the framed flag painting on the main wall above the entryway.

Evelyn turned her head slowly, her eyes tracking up toward the heavy gilded frame hanging above the foyer archway.

Evelyn: It's just a painting your father left you.

Arthur: Look at the top corner of the wood molding right next to it.

Evelyn: No... no, you didn't.

Arthur: I installed 4K security cameras throughout the main hall two weeks ago after cash started disappearing from my office desk.

Evelyn: You... you monitored me?

Arthur: I monitored the house. But the lens on that wall covers the entire second-floor railing and the entrance below.

Evelyn's face drained of color, her skin turning as pale as the white molding behind her.

Evelyn: Arthur... please... let me explain. I was stressed, the medical bills for my mother were piling up...

Arthur: You pushed a seven-year-old girl off a balcony for money.

Evelyn: I didn't mean for her to fall all the way! I just wanted to scare her so you'd think this house wasn't safe for her!

Arthur: Keep talking. The phone in my hand is recording every word you say.
