The foyer fell into a heavy and suffocating silence for several long seconds.
Richard stood frozen near the staircase with his eyes wide in shock.
He looked back and forth between his pale wife and his brave maid.
Richard: Sarah... what are you talking about?
Sarah: Mrs. Carter had the security camera angle shifted two days ago.
Sarah: She mapped out the exact spot where the camera cannot see.
Vanessa: She is making up wild stories to cover her own clumsy mistake!
Vanessa: Fire her right now, Richard!
Sarah: I have more than just my word, Mr. Carter.
Sarah kept one arm around baby Lily while holding her head high.
She walked past Vanessa and headed straight toward the dark wooden cabinet.
It was the locked antique cabinet inside the main living room area.
Vanessa tried to rush down the stairs to block Sarah's path.
Vanessa: Stay away from that cabinet!
Richard stepped firmly between Vanessa and the cabinet with a cold glare.
Richard: Let her speak, Vanessa.
Sarah pulled a small key from her apron pocket and opened the bottom drawer.
Yesterday, while cleaning, she had seen Vanessa hide heavy legal papers inside.
Sarah pulled out a thick blue folder marked with official red stamps.
She walked directly over to Mr. Carter and handed him the policy papers.
Sarah: MR. CARTER, LOOK AT THESE POLICIES.
Richard took the documents with trembling hands and flipped through the pages.
His face grew paler and paler with every line he read on the paper.
The documents were large life insurance policies taken out on baby Lily.
Vanessa had taken out a two million dollar policy naming herself as sole beneficiary.
She had forged Richard's signature on the final signature line at the bottom.
If an accident occurred, Vanessa stood to collect a fortune in cash.
Richard looked up at Vanessa with pure fury blazing in his eyes.
Richard: You insured my one-year-old daughter?
Richard: You staged this whole thing for money?!
Vanessa stumbled backward against the banister, completely out of excuses.
