FABLE

The Truth Exposed

A Boy Stopped His Father's Burial With Three Words

Two off-duty officers who were attending the funeral as family friends sprinted across the lawn, tackling Evelyn right as her fingers touched the door handle of her sedan. Her purse spilled across the asphalt, scattering gold coins, lipsticks, and a small, unlabelled amber glass vial with a blue plastic dropper top.

Officer: Hold still! You're under arrest!

Evelyn: Get your hands off me! You have no right! It was a mistake!

David marched over to the car, picking up the small amber bottle from the pavement. The chemical label had been scratched off, but a prescription serial code remained visible near the cap.

David: Synthetic paralytic toxin... tetrodotoxin derivate. It slows the heart to near zero and mimics death for up to forty-eight hours.

Evelyn: David, listen to me! I did it for us! Your father was going to disinherit you! He was changing his will to leave the entire estate trust to a charitable foundation!

David: He was my father! You tried to bury him alive for money!

Evelyn: You would have been left with nothing! We had debts! The mortgage on the estate was due!

David: I would rather be penniless than live one second with a monster like you.
