David: Jessica! Get down here right now!
The sound of footsteps echoed down the wooden stairs as Jessica walked down, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. Her face was flushed, but her posture remained defiant.
Jessica: Don't yell at me in my own home, David!
David: This isn't your home. It never was. Where is the money from the secondary loan?
Jessica's eyes darted toward Margaret before returning to David, a flicker of hesitation crossing her face.
Jessica: She’s lying to you, David. She’s confused! She’s old and mixing up her memories!
David: I saw you pulling her hair with my own eyes, Jessica! Do you think I'm blind?! Do you think I'm stupid?!
Jessica: That was an accident! She slipped and I was trying to grab her to keep her from falling!
Margaret: You called me a burden, Jessica. You said I got nothing to eat today.
Jessica: Shut up, you old bat!
David: Don't you dare talk to her like that!
David stepped directly between Jessica and his mother, towering over his wife with cold anger.
David: Mr. Henderson sent a notice today. I know about the two hundred thousand dollar loan. I know you forged my name on the mortgage documents.
Jessica went pale, her mouth opening slightly as the reality of the situation hit her.
Jessica: David... listen to me. I did it for us! I invested in a business venture that was supposed to clear all our debts!
David: What business venture? Buying designer clothes and opening secret accounts?
Jessica: It was a tech startup opportunity! My cousin told me about it—
David: You gave two hundred thousand dollars of stolen mortgage money to your shady cousin?!
Jessica: We were going to make millions, David! I was trying to fix our financial situation so we wouldn't have to live under your mother's thumb anymore!
David: My mother never asked us for a single thing! She opened her home to us when we couldn't afford an apartment!
Jessica: She judges me! Every single day, she looks at me like I don't belong here!
Margaret: I welcomed you like a daughter, Jessica. I loved you until you started hurting me.
Jessica: You stole my husband away from me! He cares more about you than his own wife!
David: A wife doesn't starve my mother! A wife doesn't forge my signature and risk putting us on the street!
Jessica: David, please... we can fix this. You can ask your mother to release the trust fund. Just fifty thousand dollars to pay off the immediate arrears, and we can save the house!
David looked at her with pure disgust, shaking his head slowly.
David: You really think I'm going to let you touch her trust money?
Jessica: If you don't, the bank will foreclose! We'll lose everything anyway!
David: No, Jessica. You will lose everything. My mother and I are going to be just fine.
Jessica: What does that mean?
David: I'm calling the police. Right now.
