Jessica: You're going to call the cops on your own wife?! Are you insane?!
David: You committed forgery, grand larceny, and elder abuse under my roof. You're lucky I don't throw you out on the street myself.
Jessica: You can't prove any of that! It's your word against mine!
Margaret: The house has security cameras, Jessica. David installed them three years ago in the main living areas.
Jessica turned around sharply, staring up at the corner of the high ceiling where a small black lens blinked steadily.
Jessica: Those... those don't work! You told me they were disconnected!
David: I reconnected them last month when I noticed small amounts of cash missing from my desk. Everything that happened in this living room today was recorded in high definition.
Jessica's face drained completely of color. Her knees seemed to buckle as she stumbled back against the entryway table.
Jessica: David... please... don't do this to me. I'll go to jail!
David: That is exactly where you belong.
David dialed three numbers on his phone and placed it to his ear, his voice calm and resolute.
David: Hello, operator? I need to report a domestic disturbance, elder abuse, and financial fraud at 412 Oakridge Lane.
Jessica: Stop! Hang up the phone!
Jessica lunged forward to grab David's arm, but David pushed her back effortlessly, holding the phone firmly against his ear.
David: Yes, the suspect is still inside the house. My seventy-two-year-old mother was physically assaulted. Please send an officer immediately.
David ended the call and placed the phone back in his pocket, looking at Jessica with cold detachment.
David: The police will be here in five minutes. Go upstairs, pack one bag of your personal clothes, and come back down. If you touch anything else in this house, I will add destruction of property to the charges.
Jessica: You're ruining my life, David! Over an old woman who has a few years left!
David: That "old woman" gave me life, raised me, and sacrificed everything for me. You tried to destroy her. Now you get to pay the price.
Jessica: I'll hire the best divorce lawyer in the state! I'll take half of your salary! I'll take half of your 401k!
David: A prenup was signed before our wedding, Jessica. Clause seven clearly states that any act of documented felony crime or fraud nullifies all rights to alimony and marital assets.
Jessica stared at him, completely defeated, realization dawning that every loophole had been closed.
Margaret: Go pack your things, Jessica. May God have mercy on your soul.
Without another word, Jessica turned around and slowly walked up the stairs, her head hung low as the faint sound of police sirens began to echo in the distance.
