The Unravelling of Brenda

Her Father Shouted At Her Until Her Sister Showed The Video

Brenda backed away, her hands fluttering near her chest. The dramatic, innocent posture she had maintained moments ago collapsed instantly, replaced by a panicked, desperate expression.

Brenda: Mark, honey, listen to me! It wasn't like that! I was just trying to show you how careless Sarah is!

Mark: You put a newborn child in danger to frame my daughter?!

Brenda: She was never going to fall! I was standing right there! I had control of the handle the whole time!

Sarah: You monster... Maya was in that stroller! She's only three weeks old!

Chloe: You risked a baby's life just because you couldn't stand that Dad was giving his daughters attention!

Mark: Shut your mouth, Brenda. Just shut your mouth.

Mark walked slowly over to Sarah. His knees hit the hardwood floor as he sank down beside her. Tears welled up in his eyes, tracking through the rough stubble on his cheeks. He reached out with a trembling hand, gently cupping Sarah's face.

Mark: Sarah... oh god, Sarah... I'm so sorry. I yelled at you. I didn't believe you.

Sarah: Dad... you screamed at me... you told me to leave...

Mark: I was wrong. I was so stupidly, foolishly wrong. Forgive me, baby girl. Please forgive me.

Sarah buried her face into Mark's shoulder, her body shaking as she sobbed. Mark wrapped his arms around both Sarah and the baby, holding his family tightly against his chest.

Brenda: Mark... please, we can talk about this in private. We're getting married in two months! Think about our future, think about the estate, the trust fund setup we talked about—

Chloe: Oh, the trust fund? Is that what this was really about, Brenda?

Brenda: Chloe, stay out of adult business!

Mark: Don't speak to my daughter like that. In fact, don't speak at all.

Mark stood up slowly, turning to face Brenda. The anger in his voice had turned into something cold, quiet, and dangerous. He took off the diamond engagement ring resting on his finger's memory and looked at Brenda with pure disgust.

Mark: The wedding is off. Get out of my house.

Brenda: Mark, you can't throw me out! We signed the lease agreement for this property together!

Chloe: Actually, Brenda, Dad owns this house outright through his family trust. You only signed a temporary occupancy guest addendum. And guess what? Pushing a baby inside the house violates the safety clause.

Brenda: You little brat!

Mark: Take your bags and leave before I call the police and charge you with child endangerment and assault.
