Sarah: Please, just look at the angle of where she fell. A baby couldn't have slipped through those bars without help!
Officer Miller: Ma'am, step back. Mr. Sterling has made a formal statement, and his wife confirmed you were responsible for child endangerment.
Sarah: She's lying to him! Victoria wanted me gone because I found out about the money!
Officer Miller: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Sarah felt the cold steel of the handcuffs bite into her wrists as she was pressed against the side of the police cruiser. She looked back up at the third-story window of the Sterling estate, where Victoria was standing behind the tinted glass, wiping away fake tears with a silk handkerchief while wearing a triumphant smile.
David: Take her away. I don't ever want to see her near my family again.
Sarah: David, you are making the biggest mistake of your life! Check the security cameras in the hallway!
David: The cameras were reset this morning for maintenance, Sarah. Nice try. You're going to prison.
David turned his back on her and walked back inside, slamming the heavy mahogany doors shut. Sarah was shoved into the back of the patrol car, her chest heaving as the sirens began to wail down the long gated driveway.
Sarah: He doesn't know... he really has no idea what she's doing to his family trust.
Two hours later, Sarah sat in a cold, fluorescent-lit interrogation room at the station. Her public defender, a tired-looking man named Mark, flipped through the sparse folder on the table.
Mark: Sarah, they have a wealthy, prominent couple making a direct accusation against a hired nanny. Without evidence, this is looking extremely bad for you.
Sarah: I didn't drop Maya! I saved her! I was in the kitchen cleaning when I heard Victoria screaming at someone on the phone about a prenup and offshore accounts. Then I heard Maya cry out from the second-floor landing.
Mark: A prenup? What does that have to do with the baby falling?
Sarah: Victoria was terrified David was going to divorce her after he found out about the missing funds from the estate account. She staged the accident to make me look like a criminal so David wouldn't listen to anything I told him!
Mark: That’s a wild theory, Sarah. Do you have any proof of these missing funds or this phone call?
Sarah: The nursery nanny-cam. Victoria thinks she disabled the whole system, but she only turned off the living room feed. The nursery camera captures the audio from the upper hallway.
Mark: Is that footage saved on a local cloud drive or an internal card?
Sarah: It’s synced directly to my personal cloud on my phone. But the police took my phone when they processed me!
Mark: If that audio exists, it could clear your name completely. But we need to get access to that device before the state files formal charges tomorrow morning.
Sarah: Mark, you have to get that phone. If Victoria realizes the nursery audio was recording, she'll find a way to wipe the entire account.
