The Violence in the Foyer

Her Stepmother Slapped Her, But Her Husband Had Federal Agents Waiting

Ethan: Get your hands off her right now!

Clara: Stay out of this, Ethan! You're just a broke husband trying to steal my late husband's life insurance payout!

Ethan: I said, don't touch my family!

Before Clara could react or raise her arm again, Ethan stepped into her path. His eyes were burning with rage. With a single swift motion, he brought his hand across Clara's face. The counter-slap cracked through the cavernous foyer like a gunshot.

Clara: Ah!

The force sent Clara off balance. Her designer heels slipped on the polished marble floor, and she went down hard on her side, clutching her reddening jaw. The fierce composure she had maintained for weeks vanished instantly, replaced by sheer shock and terror. She looked up at Ethan, her mouth open, gasping for breath.

Clara: Ethan, please wait! You don't understand what you're doing!

Ethan: I understand everything now, Clara. Every single lie, every fake document, every penny you stole from Sarah's trust fund.

Sarah: Ethan... please, help me up...

Ethan: Hold on, honey. I've got you. Lily, go stand by your mother.

Lily: Is mommy okay? Is the bad lady gone?

Ethan: She's going away for a very long time, sweetie. Clara, get up!

Clara: Let go of my arm! You can't lay your hands on me in my own home!

Ethan: This isn't your home. It never was. You forged the deed, Clara!

Ethan grabbed Clara by the arm and dragged her across the cold marble floor toward the massive front exit. Clara kicked and screamed, her expensive outfit dragging against the tiles, but Ethan did not let go. His grip was made of iron.

Clara: You can't do this to me! I'll call the local police! I'll file a lawsuit against you for assault!

Ethan: Go ahead and call them. In fact, you won't have to call anyone at all.

Sarah: Ethan, what are you talking about? What did you discover at the bank today?

Ethan: I'm talking about the mortgage fraud, Sarah. And the wire transfers to offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands.

Clara: You... you have no proof of those accounts!

Ethan: I didn't need proof. The federal investigators already had it all lined up. They were just waiting for you to commit a felony on camera in this very room.

Ethan flung open the heavy front door and shoved Clara out onto the bright concrete driveway. Clara tumbled onto the warm pavement, her hair wild and her face pale with humiliation. She looked up and saw three dark SUV vehicles parked right outside the gates.

Ethan: Never set foot in this house again!

Clara: You think you've won? You're nothing! You have no power here!

Ethan: You are going straight to federal prison, Clara. Look behind you.

Clara turned her head toward the driveway entrance. Four uniformed federal agents stepped out of the black vehicles, holding official arrest warrants in their hands. Clara's voice caught in her throat as she realized the horror of her situation.
