The Boy Left The Mansion For Her

The grand hall of the Sterling mansion was packed with the city’s wealthiest elite, all gathered for the annual charity gala. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow over marble floors, and champagne glasses clinked in soft, polite celebrations. At the center of the room stood little Leo, dressed in a sharp beige suit, looking small against the towering statues and gilded mirrors. He was the sole heir to a multi-million-dollar real estate estate, a child who had everything money could buy. Yet, tears streamed down his fair cheeks, catching the bright light of the ballroom. His shoulders trembled as he stared at the crowd of rich guests who were watching him with forced, sympathetic smiles.

Margaret: Come here, darling! Don't be shy on such a big night.

Victoria: Look at him, so overwhelmed by all this grand atmosphere.

Eleanor: Sweetheart, step forward, everyone is waiting to see the young heir.

Leo looked back at the cluster of wealthy women in sparkly gowns, crouching down and beckoning him with manicured hands. He took a hesitant step backward instead. Across the room near the floor-to-ceiling windows, his father, Richard Sterling, stood in a tailored black suit. Richard’s face was cold, his jaw set in a hard line as he glared at his son, silently demanding that the boy behave like a proper Sterling. The tension in the air was thick enough to choke on, but Leo wasn't looking at his father, nor was he looking at the high-society ladies offering him expensive silk handkerchiefs.

Richard: Leo, stand straight and wipe your face right now.

Leo: No... I don't want to be here!

Without warning, the young boy turned on his heel and sprinted across the polished marble floor. Whispers echoed off the high walls as guests gasped in shock. Leo paid no attention to the eyes following him. He ran past the grand piano, past the catered buffet tables, straight toward the double doors near the back staff entrance. Standing there, holding a silver tray laden with crystal glasses, was Mary, a quiet maid dressed in a simple black dress and crisp white apron. As Leo approached her with frantic steps, the entire ballroom went dead silent, unaware that a dark family secret was about to explode right in front of them.
