The Truth About the Touch

The Boy Touched His Dying Brother and Shocked Every Doctor

Mark stumbled back, clutching his burning, reddened jaw in absolute disbelief.

Mark: You hit me. In front of hospital staff, you assaulted me!

Elena: I defended my family from a monster. Get out of this room before I have security drag you through the lobby in handcuffs.

Dr. Harrison: I have already signaled hospital security, Mr. Vance. Two armed officers are outside the double doors.

Mark: This is a conspiracy! You all planned this to strip my legal rights away!

Elena: Nobody planned your greed, Mark. You did that all on your own.

Mark glared at Toby, his chest heaving with bitter resentment.

Mark: You think you won, kid? How did you even know he was crashing? How did you change his vitals?

Toby: I didn't change his vitals with magic, Mark.

Dr. Harrison: Toby, explain what you did. As a physician, I need to understand what happened at that incubator.

Toby reached into his hoodie pocket and pulled out a small, sterile grey auto-injector case.

Dr. Harrison: Is that... the synthetic peptide stabilizer from the Swiss clinical trial?

Toby: Mom kept the emergency doses from when I was sick. The specialist told her that if our family blood ever surfaced again in another baby, this was the only thing that could restart cellular oxygen absorption.

Elena: You brought the medicine that saved your own life?

Toby: When I touched his chest, I pressed the subcutaneous needle against his inner thigh under the swaddle blanket. Just like Mom taught me this morning.

Dr. Harrison let out a long, stunned breath, shaking his head in absolute admiration.

Dr. Harrison: A micro-dose peptide injection. It binds directly to the infant hemoglobin within forty seconds. That is why the monitors normalized.

Mark: That medicine was purchased with my father’s money! That belongs to me!

Elena: It belonged to the boy you tried to abandon. And now it saved the boy you tried to kill.

The conference room door swung open, revealing two uniformed police officers alongside the head of hospital security.

Officer Miller: Mr. Mark Vance?

Mark: Officers, thank God you are here. These people are fabricating medical records and practicing medicine without a license!

Elena: Officer, my husband forged medical non-intervention documents to let our newborn son die for an inheritance payout.

Dr. Harrison: I have the falsified palliative care intake forms right here, Officer. Along with surveillance footage of Mr. Vance attempting to physically intimidate the minor witness.

Officer Miller: Mr. Vance, step away from the table and place your hands behind your back.

Mark: Do you know who my family is? You cannot touch me!

Officer Miller: Turn around, sir. Right now.
