Mark: Yes, operator? I need emergency services at 442 Elm Street immediately. My wife was kidnapped and held captive in our basement.
Brenda: Mark, stop! Hang up the phone!
Mark: The suspect is inside the house right now. Please hurry.
Mark lowered the phone, his gaze unyielding. Brenda backed away until her shoulders hit the front door. She looked around frantically, searching for an escape route, but the heavy oak door was behind her, and Mark stood directly between her and the hallway exit.
Brenda: You're making a massive mistake. When my father hears about this, he'll hire the best defense team in the state. You won't see a dime of compensation!
Emily: We don't want your money, Brenda. We want justice.
Brenda: Justice? You think the legal system cares about your feelings? I have the signed trust fund transfers! I have the notarized power of attorney!
Emily: Notarized under duress, while you held a hammer to my head in that dark room! Do you think a judge won't see right through that?
Lily held tightly to Emily's leg, looking up at her stepmother with a mixture of fear and defiance.
Lily: You're a mean lady! You lied to Daddy!
Brenda: Be quiet, you ungrateful little brat! I bought you clothes, I cooked your meals, I played the mother while she was rotting down there!
Mark: Don't you ever talk to my daughter like that again!
Mark took a step toward Brenda, his frame towering over her. Brenda flinched, holding her arms up to shield herself, but Mark simply reached past her and turned the deadbolt on the front door, locking her inside until the police arrived.
Mark: You aren't going anywhere. You're going to stand right there and face the consequences of what you've done.
Brenda: Mark, please... look at me. Remember the last six months? We were happy! We were building a home together!
Mark: Every second with you was built on a monstrous lie. I feel sick just looking at you.
In the distance, the faint sound of sirens began to echo through the suburban neighborhood, growing louder with every passing second.
