Officer Harris: Mr. Miller, we'll need paramedics here right away to evaluate your wife, and an investigator will be arriving shortly to process the basement area.
Mark: Thank you, Officer. Do whatever you need to do. Just make sure she never comes near my family again.
Emily: Mark... it's really over? Is she really gone?
Mark: She's gone, Emily. She's never going to hurt you again. I swear it.
A few minutes later, an ambulance pulled into the driveway. Paramedics walked into the foyer, gently wrapping a warm blanket around Emily's shoulders and checking her vitals while Lily held onto her mother's hand, refusing to let go for even a second.
Paramedic: Her blood pressure is low, and she's severely malnourished, but she's stable. We need to take her to the hospital for a full medical assessment.
Mark: I'm coming with you. Lily, get your coat.
Lily: Are we going to bring Mommy home after the hospital?
Mark: Yes, baby. We're bringing Mommy home for good.
Mark walked over to the hallway table and picked up the legal documents that Brenda had prepared. He tore the fraudulent estate papers into pieces, tossing them into the trash can near the entrance.
Emily: What about the business, Mark? Her father...
Mark: Let him try. I'll hire the best estate lawyer in the state. Once the police file their report on kidnapping, extortion, and fraud, Brenda and her father won't have a leg to stand on in court.
Emily: I missed you so much... every single day down there, I kept thinking of you and Lily.
Mark: I never stopped looking for you in my heart, Emily. I should have known something was wrong. I should have searched harder.
Emily: You found me. That's all that matters.
They walked out of the house together into the warm afternoon sun, leaving behind the dark secrets of the basement forever. Justice was finally being served, and the family was whole once again.
