Julian: Where did you get this locket, son?
Leo: My mom gave it to me five years ago before the big crash. She told me to never take it off.
Julian: Your mother gave this to you?
Leo: Yes. She said if I ever got lost, I had to find my dad and show him the bird on the front.
Julian stared at the golden falcon engraved on the front, his thumb rubbing over the worn edges.
Vanessa: Julian, stop entertaining this homeless kid! Someone probably found it in a ditch and sold it to him!
Julian: My grandfather had this crest cast in pure gold. There are only two in existence.
Vanessa: It could be a cheap knockoff from a pawn shop!
Julian: One is in my private safe at the estate. The other was buried with Claire.
Leo: It wasn't buried, Dad! Mom hung it around my neck right before the car rolled down the hill!
Vanessa: This is ridiculous! He's coached! Somebody hired him to ruin our merger!
Julian ignored her, kneeling down again so his eyes were level with the trembling boy.
Julian: Open the latch, buddy. Show me what's inside.
Leo: The hinge is loose because I hid it under the floorboards, but look.
Leo pressed the tiny side notch with his fingernail, and the golden face popped open.
Inside was a tiny, water-damaged picture of Claire laughing in a field of sunflowers, her handwriting scratched onto the back panel: For our sweet Leo, love forever.
Julian: Claire's handwriting... this is Claire's actual handwriting.
Vanessa: Anyone can forge handwriting, Julian! You are humiliating my entire family in front of Dallas society!
Julian: Shut up, Vanessa. Just shut up.
Vanessa: How dare you speak to me like that at the altar?!
Leo: She knows my name, Dad. She came to the boarding house in Waco two weeks ago.
The entire front row of wedding guests leaned forward, whispering among themselves in utter shock.
Vanessa: I have never been to Waco in my entire life!
Leo: You were wearing that big diamond ring on your thumb and smelled like lavender flowers! You gave Mr. Henderson a fat brown envelope!
Julian: Henderson? Thomas Henderson, the private investigator I hired to find my family after the accident?
Leo: Yes! He said if I made any noise when visitors came, he would lock me in the storm cellar without dinner!
Julian: Thomas Henderson told me five years ago that my son's remains were identified by state dental records.
Vanessa: Because they were! The case was closed by the county coroner!
Leo: He lied to you, Dad! Look behind my left ear!
Julian gently turned the boy's head, pulling back his matted hair.
Right at the hairline sat a distinct, dark red birthmark shaped like a tiny leaf—the exact mark Julian’s own mother had carried her whole life.
Julian: My God... it’s you. It really is you.
Vanessa: Julian, this is an elaborate scam! We have five hundred guests waiting for the reception!
Julian stood up, his face pale and eyes blazing with sudden, dangerous fury.
Julian: You stole my child!
Before Vanessa could take a single step backward, Julian delivered a sharp counter-slap across her cheek.
The impact sent the bride crashing down onto the polished marble floor, her tiara snapping in half as she hit the stone.
Vanessa: Wait, please! Let me explain!
Julian grabbed her arm and dragged her across the marble toward the grand doors, her white gown tearing along the floor.
Julian: You are going straight to federal prison!
