Uncovering the Paper Trail

The Maid and the Stepmother's Secret

Victoria's eyes darted toward the hallway, her confidence crumbling line by line. She straightened her coat, trying to maintain her icy demeanor.

Victoria: You have no proof of any offshore transfer. My personal accountants handle my investments.

Marcus: Your personal accountants are currently being interviewed by the federal investigators, Victoria.

Evelyn: Show her the folder, Marcus. Let her see what we found in the attic safe.

Marcus pulled a thick manila folder from his jacket pocket and threw it onto the glass coffee table between them. The paper pages spilled out, showing bank statements, forged signatures, and transfer receipts.

Victoria: You broke into my private office? That is illegal search and seizure!

Marcus: It’s my house, Victoria. My name is on the mortgage, on the title deed, and on the family trust. You were just a guest who overstayed her welcome.

Victoria: I gave ten years of my life to your father! I cared for him when he was dying in that bed while you were off playing CEO!

Evelyn: You didn't care for him! You kept him isolated! You changed his will three days before he lost his ability to speak!

Victoria: How dare a maid speak to me about family matters!

Marcus: Stop calling her a maid! She has more right to stand in this room than you ever will!

Victoria: Marcus, listen to reason. We can settle this privately. We don't need lawyers or police involved. Think of the press! Think of the company stock!

Marcus: I am thinking of the company stock. And that's why I'm cutting out the cancer before it destroys us.

Evelyn: You told me my mother died with nothing, Victoria. You told me she abandoned me because she was bankrupt. But you were the one who intercepted her letters!

Victoria: She was unstable! She would have ruined the family name!

Evelyn: She was sick and alone in a hospital! And you kept her monthly medical checks for yourself!

Victoria: That is a lie! I spent that money on maintaining this estate!

Marcus: On maintaining your diamonds, you mean. On buying luxury cars and funding your gambling trips to Monaco.

Victoria: You can't prove any of that!

Marcus: We don't have to prove it. The bank statements already did. The signature on Clara’s medical release form wasn't hers. It was a crude copy of yours.
