Six months later, the morning sun shone brightly through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Vance estate. The cold, sterile feel of the mansion had been replaced by warm colors, fresh flowers, and the sweet sound of a baby giggling.
Evelyn: Look who’s waking up! Good morning, sweet girl.
Marcus: Morning, little princess. Did she sleep through the night again?
Evelyn: Almost eight hours straight. She’s getting so big, Marcus.
Marcus: Just like her grandmother. She has Clara’s eyes, you know.
Marcus handed Evelyn a mug of fresh coffee and sat down beside her on the patio couch, looking out over the blooming garden.
Evelyn: The legal team finished liquidating Victoria’s assets yesterday. Every cent she stole was transferred into the new trust fund for the baby.
Marcus: Good. And the house title is officially in your name now. The paperwork came through this morning.
Evelyn: My name? Marcus, I thought we were sharing the estate?
Marcus: It was always meant to be Clara’s portion of the inheritance. It belonged to her, which means it belongs to you. You earned it, Evelyn. You survived everything she threw at you.
Evelyn: I couldn't have done it without you, Uncle Marcus. If you hadn't believed me when I showed you those old photographs...
Marcus: I knew the truth the second I looked at you. You have your mother’s heart. I only regret that I didn't see through Victoria’s lies sooner.
Evelyn: What matters is that we’re family now. Real family. No secrets, no lies, no fear.
Marcus: Amen to that. Now, how about we turn that old dark office downstairs into a nursery?
Evelyn smiled, holding her baby daughter tight against her shoulder. For the first time in her life, she was finally home.
